Hello from Cranston, RI
#1

Hello All,

Last weekend, I put a deposit down on one 1993 Grand Prix White 968 Cab. It was snowing so I wasn't going to bring it home that day but tomorrow is looking sunny and 40 degress sooooo.... I'm keeping my fingers crossed. 12 years ago I sold my last Porsche, a 1973 911T. Had to go when I got maerried unfortunately. My wife has been telling me for years to get another Porsche when I turned 40. That happened last July - took me 7 months to find the right one. I spent a lot of time looking at 996's thinking that the 911 was the way to go but I always thought the 968 looked spectacular and when this one came on the market (you never see them for sale around here in New England) I fell in love with it. It has 60,000 miles and is in pristine condition.

Me? two girls, a crazy 5-month yellow lab and a great wife. I live in Cranston, RI (just south of Providence) and I am the manager of a commercial lending group at a small bank in Newport, RI. That's about it for now. Looking forward to learning a lot from this site!!!

Check out the Hershey thread. There is a gathering of 968's and enthusiest's

Hi Blue,
I'm still not allowed to do to much on the site, including PM, etc. etc......I can't even get into your profile. Would like to get in touch though. As far as I can tell, there are not too many 968's in Little Rhody! What's the story behind "blue968" with a red cab? Is this your second one?

Not sure about the Hershey trip. It's a little short notice for me but maybe next year with some planning.

Maybe you have some advice on how I can get you my info?

Jeff 968,

How do you know the car? It was for sale in CT (it was only there for about a month) but actually was a trade-in from a guy on Long Island who bought it in 07. I think he was from Merrick, NY. Before that, one owner in Ohio for 13 years. If you know this car though let me know how. I'd be interested.

To all,

Thanks for the "hellos". My original plan (picking up the car on Sunday) fell through, but yesterday my wife and I took half a day and headed out to CT. Took her for a test drive and she drove like a dream. The car was for sale at Weissach Autohaus in Oxford, CT. Phil Cracco owns the place, it is a Porsche lovers dream and he does an excellent job. Check out his website if you get a chance.

Had a crazy experience towards the end of the test drive. We're coming around a sharp bend in the road in the middle of a very wooded area, and smack in the middle of a road is a bobcat. It was a good test for the brakes as we almost ended up with the thing on our hood. He never budged, just stood there looking at us. Finally took off into the woods as we were fiddling with our phones trying to get a picture.

Anyways, I am absolutely thrilled with the car. It was a quick two hour drive home. Not that I went too fast but time flies when you are having fun! Lot of work to do now though, registration, inspection, plates, etc. etc. I am dreading the DMV trip!!

Welcome,

As someone who joined the 968 owners group just recently, it is great to see continuous additions to the Forum membership. It means that those purchasing a 968 are serious about it and want to gather good information to maintain their purchases. From a "newcomers" perspective, this site is great. The wife and I are serious about making a cross-country trip to hershey next year (almost cross-continent for us Canadians), so hopefully we will meet then. Your trip will be much shorter!

Lenderlee,
I went and looked at the car for another potential buyer. It was very clean and well sorted out. I'm the advocate for the PCA 968 register and my local region Porsche club chapter has meetings at that location (actually the service area). Good luck with the car.

Jeff,

Do you refer to Daniel Jacobs? If so, I checked it out when I was picking up the car. That is some shop! I wish I was closer because I would love to have a shop like that around where I am.

For anyone else....It's been a week and a half with the car, and all seems well. Just two things I have found. One, the right side of the car seems to sit just ever so slightly lower than the left side. Barely noticeable but definitely there. I took a measurement from the fender to the top of the rear tires and it appears to be about a half inch lower. I thought I saw a thread on the site that discussed this but can't seem to find it now. Two, a very small oil leak just inside the right front tire maybe a foot back from the center of the tire. A spot about the size of a half dollar accumulated on the floor of the garage over the course of a week. Any ideas?

There is a cap on the back of the balance shaft that always leaks could very well be that, if off course the oil pan gasket looks good.
Have you had a chance to look under the car? Chances are its going to be very dirty and will need to be washed down to locate the actual oil leak.

did you find out why you cant accept a PM??

Blue968, thanks for the tip, project for when it warms up some.

I sent you a PM, did you get it? Maybe we could meet some warm weekend coming up. Went to A&W in Greenville last weekend and did some driving on 116 and 102 in Burriville, Scituate, etc. Nice riding out that way.

Also, I just have to send out some warm regards about Weissach Autohaus again in CT. Phil Cracco is one stand up guy. I bought the car three weeks ago. Everything original except one item - a late 90's model JVC radio that had been installed. Nice system, but seemed "out of place". So two days ago, out of the blue, I get a Fedex package in the mail and in the package is the original Porsche radio system. Phil had forgotten he had gotten it seperately from the previous owner, found it just recently in storage and sent it to me. I am psyched to have the original system and will get around to installing it soon. Then I should have (as far as I can tell so far) a 100% original 968 CAB, right down to the little white cotton glove set in the compartment under the front hood!!

Thanks Phil, great operation your run there!
