Hello from Belmont on the SF Peninsula
#1

I just bought my first Porsche, a 94 968 coupe, the day after new years from member Ryker Flint. Ryker, thanks for your introductions to the forum as well as your other resources.

I work in the aviation industry. I run the maintenance department for the aircraft charter firm XOJET.

I sold my personal plane in December and decided I needed something that flew a little closer to the ground.

I'm looking forward to being an active member on the forum.

All the best,

Dave

Welcome,

Any friend of Ryker's is...never mind, you'll have to make it on your own

Enjoy the site,

Jay

Welcome Dave, and it's too bad you live so far, far away from me ( San Carlos ) or I would have suggested a get together with "the locals" ..:-). But seriously folks, Trevor ( PorscheG96 ) and I live about a 3 minute drive from another, and we have more 968ers / forum members in proximity as well, so we'll have to set up an official mini-meet :-) . BTW, what color is the car ( Ryker buys and sells them so quickly who can keep track of which ones he keeps ?! , LOL )

Welcome Dave! I'm glad you made it to the site. Great group of guys here, Jay notwithstanding . I purchased brand new micro switches, so not sure what is going on. Like I said, I finally gave up and paid to have that damned sunroof fixed. You should talk to Chicago at Corfee's, and ask his advice. He charged me over $500 to get it right, so ask him if he will warranty it. He's a good guy, and has been my mechanic for over a decade.

OK everybody, get off my case! Lol. I went a little nuts there for awhile trying to figure out what I wanted. I definitely learned a lot along the way. I feel like I can do just about anything on these cars now! I have finally settled on two cars, a very early 1993 M030 Wimbledon Green coupe that is all decked out, and a Guards Red turbo that I MAY purchase. Oh, and a 1996 Ferrari 355 GTS that is being completely restored as we speak.

Flash and I have spent nearly a week getting the M030 straightened out, and I still have a long list: dim cluster; run a new antenna wire; keyless entry; bleed brakes; Euro front lenses; cruise control not working; paint spoiler, splitter, hatch trim, fuel rail cover, window pillar; front shock foam bushing; four wheel alignment; change transmission oil; fix blown front speaker; replace horrible stock seats with something more comfortable for a 6'3" frame, and more.

Tahoe968, definitely let me know about that door handle. I can drive up there to help put it back together. I've done it twice already, so I have it down. I will visit my daughter in Carson while I'm there.

OK, I'm veering off topic. Yes, I realize I do sell VW vans but was never my intention with the 968's. Definitely not profitable, and besides, I need to stay on track selling multi-million dollar office buildings! Focus, focus...

Ryker,

I'm slowly picking away. Fixed the sunroof. limit switches were loose in their mounts. Fixed the low speed fan. Relay had a failed terminal internally. Tank needs to come out for fuel leaks.

But, oh so fun to drive.

Anyone buying a 20 year old Porsche is buying the continuation of a project. I have no issues with the the car as I bought it. Ryker filled me in on some open issues the car had and I was reporting back on what those fixes entailed.

This has been my daily driver since I bought it. From a driving perspective its been stone reliable (am I jinxing myself). From a niggling detail perspective, it will be in the process of refinement until I sell it. I'm not sure if my comments were being construed as bitching about Ryker. I'm a happy camper.

Thanks Ryker, yeah, I ordered a new, primer gray, handle from Sunset Porsche last week and while it's here now, I haven't had a chance to put it back on yet (it still needs to be painted). I would welcome any help/assistance once I have it back from the painters. Maybe late next week, or the week after? If you can/ or can't make it - no worries, I do have a local guy helping me out with the smaller things. I would also like to talk with you about brakes however as that's in the near future.

Didn't sound like bitching to me. Just a list of things to do. Enjoy the fact you can drive your car because some of us poor mooks is freezing on the other coast! Lol

Harsh winter this year in the East. I'm from Pittsburgh. I promised myself when I got out of school I would never live anywhere it snowed. After 40 years...so far so good.

Yeah, tough to complain about a winter with fairly consistent mid 70s temps month after month, only interrupted by occasional heat waves in the high 80s ...until this coming spring and summer when we're no doubt going to experience some serious water rationing !!

We need all that snow from the east to make its way here, LOL.

-4 feels like -18 right now. Tonite wind chills -20. It's neat to look at the outside temp gauge in your car and see - signs. It's not neat when its multiple days. Heating costs are thru the roof. I feel sorry for those who must rob Peter to pay Paul to pay these costs. Can you say drag on the economy? It's a shame we can't blame this on the Liar in Washington. Doesn't seem globally warm to me! Lol

Dave, I'm happy to hear you're driving it daily! For a car with 155k miles, I was always impressed how tight and solid it felt. Flash drove it and he had the same observation. Nice fix on the limit switches. I figured it must be something easy that I missed, since most of that system is new. Great catch on the relay too! I did not want you going into Summer with that fan inoperable. Drop the tank? I fixed the fuel smell in Biosurfer's car with just new filler hoses. There are a lot of threads on this site about trouble shooting fuel smell but you work on jets, so I'm sure you know what you're doing!

I was thinking about the turn signal light not flashing, and it could just be the wiring. I replaced the tabbed connectors because the PO had broken off all of the tabs. Pull the cluster, get a wiring diagram, and I bet the wire is loose that plugs into the tab. There were a lot of wires, and a couple of them were a little frayed.

Tahoe968, next weekend works for me. Let me know if you have the handle back by then. I actually enjoy working on these cars...go figure.
