Hello from another newbie!!!
#1

Hello, I'm suppose to post here to start my membership. So here goes my story, lol.

I was a owner of a 1990 944S2 Cab, it was a 50k mile cream puff. about 2 months ago a lady in a SUV pulled out of a strip mall and plowed into me and after messing around with the body shop and her insurance company it was totaled out. Now I have been looking to replace the car.

I am going to go the 968 route this time. I am going to be 52 this Nov and I have had a 73 2.0 914, 79 911SC and the late 90 944S2 among my hobby car career. My 944 was the best car out of all 3 of them. I could write a small book on why. I know there will be allot if not most 911 owners that will disagree with me mainly because the 911 was and is the marquee of Porsche.

I was a fairly regular member on 944online and even though Ian has a 968 area there are not many 968 members. So I am defecting over here just for all the information pertaining to these cars. I am in the process of finding the right car for me and I am in NO hurry. My 944 took me about a year to find when I went searching for it. My search area is anywhere in the continental USA. I want a low mileage car with impeccable maintenance records.

Welcome and good luck in your search. While the 944 and the 968 are similar, each has its own unique issues. The 968 overall, being newer is a slightly better car (but you would expect us to say that). Things like easier clutch change, etc help here.

All the best with the search for the right 968. If you loved the 944, you will love the 968 even more.

It took me 5 months to find a 968. Made the offer today and, pending an inspection, will own it shortly. Life is good

Welcome and good luck in your search. Lots of similar issues, but also lots of improvements in the 968 over the S2. I had a 924 and a 944S before getting into my 968, and it's by far the best of the three.

Welcome -

My 968 is my first Porsche and I am thrilled to own it. I wish I could just drive it now.

Sigh........

Good luck on your search.

Here's a link to my PPI document if you're interested. It contains some of the common things to look for, in "checklist" format.

Well I found the car I want and purchased it today. It's a 94 coupe 6 spd & option 220 full documents from day 1. The last major service was 2/12 to the tune of $3800. The car belonged to a doctor so it was in the hands of someone that could financially take care of it. There is so much to talk about this car. It has a Design 1 Supercharger installed. It will be here a couple of weeks because my wife and I are leaving on a 7 day cruise on the 11 and I wont have the car delivered until we get back so I can see it come off the transporter. I am totally jazzed about this car. It has a ton of money in it and I got a pretty good deal. I will post pictures when it gets here!!!!

Welcome and good luck for your search. For me it took some 6 moths to find what I was after, blue cab with gray interior. Now I have one of two with this color combination ever imported to USA and I am very happy with my car, especially after the improvements I have done for it.

Since joining to forum I have got new friends and like minded 'petrol head, contacts, which I very much appreciate. I have not needed much technical assistance, which is so much available on the forum. Enjoy the ride.

Welcome jws, I remember you over at 944online. My story was similar to yours, I had an '87 944S which was totaled (bought it back and fixed it) and bought a '94 968 a year later. I love the 968, much more powerful and smoother. I get 10 times more complements and questions on the 968 vs the 944. This site is also much more active than 944online so you'll get more responses to your questions.

Hello JTP, I didn't want to buy the car back because it still would have had a salvaged title. Ians forum was really changing and not for the good. There was allot of new blood coming in that was changing the dynamics of the family atmosphere that it once was. Not saying that new people aren't bad on the contrary. I talk to some of the old timers on the phone but I stay away from the forum all together. I can't wait until the car gets here because I have lost allot of good driving time this summer without a hobby car.

The profile picture I added was one of the photo's of the actual car I bought. I will use that until the car gets here and I can take some shots of it at the house. One thing that will change as soon as the car gets here are the rims. I will install the set I had on my S2.

Yea, I did a ton of research on the car before I desided. One thing that realy made up my mind was the red interior.

Well I finally found my car and I am going to go pick it up and trailer it back this Friday. It's a 93 triple black bone stock cabriolet that is a 9 out of 10 condition. It has 66k miles full maintenance history all the way back to the window sticker. It had a new clutch put in by the local Porsche dealer at 64k miles, a new top and headliner last month at a cost of $1500. The guy had the dealer give the car a tune up and oil change and a good check up to make sure nothing was wrong before he put it up for sale. It is in need of a belt service due by time at 5/14. I will change the cam chain pads as soon as I get it home and inspect the Verio assembly. The power steering rack was resealed and a new power steering pump installed at 58k miles. The car was garaged it's whole life. It was a well cared for car. I was lucky to find it. I paid $12,750.00 and I feel as though I found a great car at a great price.

I will post a picture as soon as I get it home and get my old *ss to figure out how to post them, lol!!!
