hello all fellow 968 owners
#1

Hello all, I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jason, and I live on the eastern shore of Maryland about 15 miles from Annapolis.
I just purchased a 95 midnight blue 968. I am new tp Porsche, but have been following them for years. I had my sights set on a 89 944 NA, which I basically had decided to buy, but caught wind of this gorgeous 968. After a couple of test drives, a carfax check, and a records check shes mine.
I have really enjoyed driving this car, it is honestly more fun that I ever thought it would be. I am looking forward to really getting to know this car inside and out. I have never been much of a wrencher, but have decided I really want to learn with this car. So I sure I will be looking for copios amounts of advice from the forum, and hopefully spending time with you more experienced wrenchers learning the ropes.

Best Regads,

Jason

Hi Jason. Copius amounts of 968 information here is an understatement. You'll enjoy getting into it. Welcome.

Careful what you wish for, you will get more technical advice than you may have expected. Problem is it's all good and will inevitably cost you thousands in stuff you will want to do to your car "just because".

Thanks for the welcome guys, I am excited to learn, and drive this beauty. I have only had the car two weeks and have a huge list of would like too's. So car is pretty solid, only things that I have noticed are wrong is non working odometer, which was broken by someone else on a test drive resetting the odometer. And what I think is a bad fan relay, as the fan will not shut off when I turn the car off. I am sure the list will grow, but hopefully in small manageable chunks.

Cooling fans run for several minutes after the car is turned off...this is SOP.

Got her home the day I bought it, and pulled into the drivway to start the first wash and detail. Fan was running strong, looked in manual and said it would run until engine cooled to 170 degrees. Well 30 minutes later, fan still going strong so I checked the forums for some advice. I am going to try a new relay to see if that fixes it. Until then just pulling fuses to not kill battery.

30 minutes is a bit long! Normally will run < 5 min and shut off. There is a cooling system diagnosis PDF here which is very comprehensive; just do a search. Probably either the thermo switch hiding under the rad hose or the fan relay.
