I am just going through the process of joining your group and I hope this finds you all well.
I am in my 50's and work in the offshore oil and gas industry. I live just outside Chester, Cheshire in the UK and have been an admirer of the front engine Porsche since first seeing a 924 on my local high street in the mid 70's. During the 80's and 90's when the 944 and 968 were around I could not justify buying one at that time but my appreciation of these cars has always remained and so now the kids are grown up I recently took the plunge and paid absolute top money for a Guards Red 95 MY 968 Sport (UK spec only) from a Porsche dealership in Portsmouth, 200 miles from where I live. This car has had one owner from new and has been kept fully serviced at the same Porsche dealership since then. She has covered 55,000 miles in her 20 years and is in showroom condition. I only expect to average a couple of thousand miles per year in this car and she will stay as originally supplied with no upgrades or accessories. If I fall in love with them that much I would buy another one for far less cash in order to pile on the miles. This one though is quite a rare find as only around 300 (I believe) of this spec were ever supplied.
The bit that might surprise you. I haven't actually seen the car as yet!! I bought her over the phone on the recommendation of a friend who having owned 5 Porsches over the years was a better judge than me and could let his head and not his heart make the right judgement. I will collect her on completion of this tour offshore. As and when I learn how to post pics on this site I will upload some.
Having been to the States several times I know how you guys take pride in the cars you drive and I hope this one meets with your expectations. In the meantime I look forward to getting to know some of you over my time of ownership.
My other interesting vehicles include or have included:
Land Rover Defender 90 County (tuned to circa 200 HP)
1956 Austin Healey 100/4 BN2
1969 Triumph TR6 (150 HP model)
2010 Harley Davidson Fat Bob with big bore kit and V&H Slashcut exhaust
That's all for now. Lets see if the moderator lets this through.
Kind regards
Phil
