Normal. But of course it depends on just how big the gap is and it's too difficult to tell from photos ( for me anyway ) . Measuring that at a couple of different spots along the perimeter - also since it's uneven the gap will be larger in one side than the opposing side - and if you post tne distances for both , I'm sure flash or someone else will have the acceptable parameters which would indicate whether it's time to change them or not. But if the car does not have any symptoms that lead you to suspect your strut tower bearings are shot, or at least on the way to being shot soon, why change them until that time comes ?

Measured the gaps. They're about 7mm or 1/4 inch. Perfectly level too. So I guess I'm safe for now. Jeeej!

Guys

I'm new here so can't post images yet. Regarding the "suspension strut mounting" part # 951 343 018 04 OEM (which appears to be the same for late 944 and 968 on Pelican).  I notice a "gap" between the metal plate and the rubber block in the 944 workshop manual model '87 onwards section 40- page 05 on the drawing of the strut/axle/wheel, this "gap" which would be at a guess 5-10mm looks standard on a new "suspension strut mountings".

 

Is it possible our strut mountings aren't as badly worn as we think?
