With the help of someone responding to my plea for assistance to help me resolve my no-start situation...I've now got my 968 running. As soon as I double-check the many posts giving technical advice on how to troubleshoot and fix it, I'll announce who came closest to helping me resolve the electrical problem and will send them the $100 reward.
Although the car now runs great, it has developed a new problem....it leaks oil from the front crankshaft seal. When I ordered parts I didn't know the number of the crank seal and O-ring so I let the dealer I ordered from "ship the right part." They sent 999-113-331-40 and O-ring number 999-707-283-40. When I pulled the old seal that was on my car I noticed that it was a different color than the replacement part they sent me and had a different number. The new part seemed to fit so I assumed they sent me the correct part, thinking that maybe it was just an updated number. Well...it may not be and I threw away the old parts. I need to verify the numbers and order new seals.
So I have a new set of problems but these should be simple compared to the electrical gremlin. I also have to get the oil off my new belts. Knowing that belts can be sensitive, how should I clean them?
Thanks guys. You don't know how great I felt when she cranked right up and started purring. The first time I tore the front off the engine it took me hours. This time, it took me less than an hour. Practice makes perfect. One thing about this whole experience, I've learned a heck of a lot and should be able to diagnose many problems from now on...even on a lonely highway away from home. Later, I’ll write up “lessons learned” and share with the list.
