i don't use facebook primarily because i don't have time, but now that i have discovered the hidden cookies it plants in your computer, which broadcast your activity, i avoid it like the plague. i really don't want anybody poking around like that.

LIFE IS GOOD!

I had a crazy busy morning getting things together for a big Tender submission with one of the local government departments. On the way back home I decided to get my daily 968Forums "fix" at my favorite "watering hole" (Dublin Crossing Neighbourhood Pub - Surrey, BC).

Here I sit, enjoying a pint, salt & pepper wings, yam fries and being entertained by fellow 968 owners!!!

Thanks to all of you who make the 968Forums a "neighbouhood" drop in location!

That is correct! About 45 Km east of Vancouver.

For those who have never visited Vancouver, it's worth the trip!

Not only a big thanks to 968Forums but really to all the great people on this site, without whom I would not have been able to enjoy my 968 so much.

Jake, I get a phishing warning on your email. I have a cousin who lives in Langley with his wife. I visited a number of years back when I was out at Whistler.

Jake you stink (in a friendly way)

I just spent the last 3 days listening to a hurricane outside (100 kph+). Running generators throughout the islands to keep the Telco/ADSL up for the dingbats who live in the woods and expect city connectivity! I want wings too

ahem - back on topic

it's really great to see how many people have become so close. there is definitely a familiarity amongst many of the members, who frequently have not even met yet.

that says a lot about the site.

Although I have said this before, for the benefit of the new members and something which echoes Flashe's statement, as a relative newbie I am vastly impressed by the friendliness of the membership. I participated in the Newtown and Ortega events last year. I came as a newcomer to both and was welcomed into both events like I was an old friend. I had met Flash at Newtown so I knew him when I traveled out to SoCal. The best part was the events were a lot of fun! Imagine a middle aged man going somewhere were he knew no one and was welcomed and had a great time. This was just my story but I suspect for you new members you would find a similar experience. And you get to drive your car!

i was talking with jay the other day, and it dawned on me that this is actually our FOURTH anniversary, not out third. i'm not sure how we missed that. we were both pretty shocked. i actually bought the site from eric in december of 2007, and then we actually took over the site shortly thereafter. that means this was 4 years.

so, i started thinking and doing a bit of homework to see where we were and where we are.

we started out when eric first opened the site with a vision of a peaceful community of owners who shared a common interest. he and i spoke at length about how to construct the site, and what directions it should take. he wanted one free of censorship and those who would inhibit the free exchange of ideas and thoughts. the old site was burdened by the closed minded self appointed experts that haunt other sites today, preventing any real exchange, especially of anything new or innovative. when eric decided to move on, he immediately contacted me about taking up the reins. of course i jumped on the opportunity.

from the day the keys were handed over, changes allowing the expansion of the site began. we already had something great going, and it was clear that it had the potential to become the most active and largest site in the world. we were determined to maintain the idea and philosophy that free thinking individuals would be able to come here and openly discuss, as calm intelligent adults, pretty much whatever they wanted to, without fear of reprisal.

to that point, as a rule, we don't censor anybody, and have extremely few instances of needs to edit anything. unlike other narrow minded sites, we never bash anybody for merely mentioning a non-sponsoring vendor, and we certainly don't ban them. in fact, since we took over, nobody has been banned for any reason.

certainly there have been intense discussions, and certainly there have been vehement disagreements, but in the end we always come back to the precept of the free exchange of ideas. the membership has shown an unparalleled ability to discuss things, some of them incredibly polarizing, and all without anybody getting in a snit. sure, there have been a handful of people who just can't see past whatever misconceptions they have for whatever reasons, but frankly they are always in the middle of some drama on any site they frequent, so i don't really think it has anything to do with anything here, and i suspect that some of their lives are so miserable they just can't be happy anywhere. they continue to piss and moan about us, which only drives more people here. that's a win/win for us.

as a result of all of this, we have now officially surpassed every single record that any 968 site has ever had, and by a wide margin. we have more threads, more posts, more members, and more information than any other site in history. the vast vault of knowledge stored here, and organized in an encyclopedic manner, is so far above and beyond any other site that it is ridiculous to even bother trying to find anything anywhere else.

in the end, it is the members that make this site what it is, and to those members, i send out a huge "thank you".

we will continue to provide the best meeting place and resource for fellow 968 enthusiasts, and will constantly be looking for new ways to expand the abilities and capacities of the site.

the biggest - the best - who needs the rest?

I am not a club joiner but somewhat out of character I joined the Forum. Apart from the breadth and depth of information on just about all 968 topics, the discussion and comraderie is refreshing. For new members, take advantage of 968 events. Even for extreme introverts such as myself you will find yourself welcomed like you knew these guys all along. Congratulations on developing and growing a club that is not only enjoyable, but a resource not to be matched.

Cheers, Bob

I have enjoyed the info and exchanges that happen here for the past two years.

Thanks to those with the vision and the knowledge to assist fellow 968 owners.

It is time to contribute financially once again to the maintenance of this great meeting place.

Hope to get around to it this weekend... sleeping for the first night in the "new" place - things are still a little messy around here!!!

That's just the wooden shoes on the hardwood floors, Dutch ghosts are very bad for not taking their clogs off at the door.

Been so busy getting things done I had not checked this topic for a few days!!!

"Langley, do you hear new noises in the nite go bump? Lol"

I'm the one going "bump" in the night With a different layout, I have a hard time finding the toilet in the middle of the night.

I stripped ALL the flooring out, and other than the bedrooms, where I have laid the laminate flooring down before we moved in, the rest of the house is still down to the plywood base. Makes it hard to sneak around at wee hours of the night and check the latest 968Forums posts!
