had to remove my first topic today
#1

well, it finally happened - i had to close a thread and remove it today, due to what was quickly becoming a pissing contest

short story, so that those who were reading the thread know what happened to it

a member posted a problem with an ebay vendor - he felt wronged - some members, including myself did not necessarily agree, and we said as much - however, at no time should it have graduated to name calling, yet it did

i am not going to get into the specifics, or what i thought about the rights or wrongs, or who did what, or said what, or any of that, but rather focus on what we don't want to see happen here - that is for the other sites, and why most people don't go to those

i did not want to get into taking sides, or editing anybody, but rather decided just to make it go away altogether

free and open discussions are always welcome here - civilized debate is heartily encouraged

name calling is not acceptable

we all have passionate feelings about different things - we all feel we need to express them from time to time - it is also a knee jerk reaction to respond on the board - i've certainly done more than my share of that (work in progress)

however.......

please folks, if it gets to the point that you feel you need to type something derogatory like that, please do it in a PM, and keep it off the board

Well put.

We all have different personalities. I joke and kid, perhaps too much. I always assume that others see my humor for what it is, light hearted. But what I type is what I would say to a person face to face. But you cant see a smile on a message board..

my apologies to all..

except the ebay seller.

The "well put" is intended for the OP. Not that 4s post isn't well put.

Yeah, that thread started reminding me of another infamous thread , I just stayed away... There will always be disagreements, but as long as they don't end up like what was happening on .Net

I visit a lot of other forums 4 advice, as members we learn from each other. They can be a great source for such information but often their are a particular group of members that doesn't view it as a little community and speak crude comments with no regard to others feelings. Understanding that we are all individuals, I expect there to be disagreements, so I try to read posts as if the person was speaking to me face to face. Makes for a more pleasant discussion.
