Turn signal stays on (left/right) after is ignition off.
#1

Just wonder if this is a Porsche "thing" or it is a "German car" thing. In all the watercooled Porsches I have owned the turn signal stays on with a steady light, if activated left or right, after you turn off ignition. The alarm beep goes on when you open the door telling you something is out of config.

Somehow I have a feeling that it is an emergency or an alert setting for night use.

It's a parking light to warn oncoming cars that you are there. On our old Mercedes you activated it by turning the headlight switch to the left. Headlights were activated by turning it to the right. First click was the lights on the left side of the car, second click was the right side lights.

It’s a feature (not a bug)…a European “parking light.”

And it’s also in the air-cooled Porsches. For example, my 914 has it, but mine doesn’t beep/chime to warn you - - which means you can kill your battery if you hit the turn signal lever with your knee and miss that the parking light is on. Which I suppose you can also do with the 968, but the beeping helps...

Indeed parking light. It is meant to be used when parked in the dark. In a narrow street for example. No chime here either.

My folks got a (imported) Pontiac once. It was full of warning labels and a bunch of chimes. When one isn't used to those things, they can be very strange and/or annoying.

When I think back of driving it, it was pretty funny how soft the suspension was and how sloppy the steering. The interior looked like it was only partly assembled. It was a 2 litre and it was SLOW. Like a 1.4 over here slow. It did have a manual and it was ok.

But if you took it easy it definitely had its merits. There were a lot of creature comforts, but all the buttons were just put..., well let's say ergonomics could be better.

Interesting how different cars can be, a what people in the US and over here expect of them.

Yep definitely a parking light, and no warning it's been left on. The occasional warning chime can be useful, though when working in the Middle East I found "ding dong you're exceeding the limit" extremely tedious. I'm considering linking a chime to my fog lights as I use them as DRLs and occasionally forget to turn the lights off. So, no worries!
