Hi from the Land of Oz.
#1

Another new member!

I am in Brisbane, Australia, and my daily drive, as of August 2011, is a 1993 tiptronic Oak Green 968 coupe. This is my 2nd Porsche, having previously owned 1987 944 turbo, but that was a few years ago now. In the period in between Porsches, I drove a Saab convertible and a Jaguar S type (still have the lovely Jag).

Owning a water-cooled Porsche causes a divide in our family as my husband is a confirmed air-cooled man, having owned a 1976 911 targa for 11 years, and, more recently, a 1983 930.

When we first bought the 968, it had been in storage for quite some time, so while it has not seen a lot of work for its years, it had not seen a lot of pampering. It has been a really rewarding project to date to bring it back to its former glory - mostly intensive detailing but also a few mechanical issues to deal with as well. We are lucky to have a good mechanic to sort this side of things. Apart from the replacing the radio (but have since had the original repaired and ready to go back in), and replacing the carpet in the rear luggage compartment, the car is original and we want to keep it mod-free.

Having fairly recently retired I now have the time to really enjoy this car and shower it with the attention it deserves.

I am really looking forward to learning a lot more about this fantastic car from other members, and sharing my own 968 stories.

Welcome,

We are always happy to see these beaties restored to their original greatness. You are amongst a very elite group of lady owners (there have been a few recent threads) and we're hapy to have you aboard.

This site is a great resource and we have many Aussies on the site. You should try to reach out and meet some as the peole are the best part of owning the car.

Welcome to the forum! Nice to see a restored daily driver on the Oz side. Quite a few of your compatriots have turned them into race machines -- not that there's anything wrong with that.

I envy you the Oak Green color - LOVELY. My Husband (ex) also had a 951 (944 Turbo) - now that was a fun car to drive. How did you manage to spend ANY time Porscheless? I'd go crazy! Glad you are back to the fold and nice to see another lady driver (I read on the 'Net we are only about 8-9% of Porsche owners............. Can anyone confirm or refute that?). Pam

Good to see another Down Under member and another Female to boot. We are managing to break the "glass ceiling" of the group. Pity I am no longer in QLD as there would be a growing 968 presence. Lots of good information here to learn from and knowledgable people to ask questions of.
