Great video on SPEED
#1

I came across this youtube video on the local PCA site. It is well done and VERY interesting. I agree that it is most interesting for those that live in BC, since the target audience and locations mentioned are from here (BC), but I think everyone will enjoy watching this. I think most of us here will agree with the presenters point...

Clear , rational and logical. No chance of happening! Speed kills should be changed to Speed produces REVENUE. This is the underlying basis for the increase in speeding tickets from municipalities around the country. Public convenience will always take a back seat to public revenue. As well it should. No one says you can't speed. Speeding is a God given right. You just might have to pay a little more for that right and choice. Would you rather they raise your school or real estate taxes? The only gripe I have is that it should just be a fine. What good does it do for a community when you take a persons driving license away? It just reduces revenue potential.

I am glad I don't live in BC.

Really, things are not much better down here. Budgets and increased revenue opportunities drive ticket writing. They also drive the newest hell, the red light camera.

Same argument with gun control. More guns equal less crime - it's a fact. So what do they keep trying to do? ban guns.

We keep electing these morons, why? Because they make sense to the majority of the morons who vote.

No matter what we do we lose so all we can do is try to enjoy ourselves until the totalitarian regime takes over completely. Welcome to the future comrade. Isn't it a glorious day?

Logic will never prevail in a system where everything is about revenue, revenue, revenue. And tne ostensibly unbiased media is anything but fair and balanced ; every report you see somehow finds a way to "justify" the politicians, police and alike bureaucrats running amok in setting and enforcing rules of the road, many of which are borderline absurd. A masterful design to keep tne system working for a few, at the expense of all others.

I am always reminded of MADD's emphatic statement and ensuing plea for drastic action : " It's an outrage that 30 % of all automobile related fatalities are caused by drunk drivers ! ". Uhhh, umm... that means 70 % of tne other fatalities are caused by sober drivers ! Seems to me one's chances of survival are far better if everyone was driving drunk...statistically speaking..

Re: Speed Kills Your Pocketbook-great comments, above.

This is interesting and the video pretty amusing at that. I love the clips from the Simpsons. Priceless! But I digress....Seems so obvious that when speed limits are set too low, people ignore them and drive at a faster speed that is reasonable based on conditions. Naturally, some people will go nuts and deserve to be reprimanded. But everyone else is getting nailed for speeding when there are so many more dangerous actions on the road. Why not just sit out in the open so people will slow down when they are driving unsafely, BEFORE you get ticketed and get points, etc.

I had this argument with my driver's ed instructor in the spring of 1986 - thats right, I'm that old. We had driver's ed as a high school class, and drove a Buick Regal with two brake pedals all over the north shore of Long Island during school. (My school also had a rifle range in the basement and a pretty competitive rifle team. No one ever even heard of crazy, passive-aggressive psychos shooting up schools or movie theaters.) Everyone in the car had already been driving in Macy's parking lots for years, but we had to take the class to get our Learner's Permit at 16.

The point I was trying to make with him and the other three kids in the car, who were happy to sit on the sidelines while I did the heavy lifting, was that it was safer to drive with the flow of traffic. His rebuttal was that it would be speeding, unsafe, and a violation. I suppose that even if he agreed with me he could not officially endorse driving faster than the posted limit on the grounds that it is safer than going the speed limit.

Anyway, thanks for posting this cool video. I've shared it with lots of friends.
