and that's what makes forums like these great
i never understood the whole purist thing myself - i would prefer to use the best of whatever was out there - porsche has always had very distinct lines, whether one likes them or not, and their chassis has always been solid (that's why they are so heavy) - the brakes have always been great -
the engines have always been the weak link - they lacked a lot - the suspensions have been soft too - that's why they had to form their own racing groups - they couldn't compete amongst the other manufacturers in production classes
for street use though, why not replace the weak areas with better stuff? - of course this does mean dealing with re-engineering the chassis to accommodate the changes
i happen to personally agree with you though about utilizing this engine - not because of any desire for "purity" or anything though - i've done enough engine swaps and retrofits to know that i have no desire to dive again into that pandora's box of jiggles, wiggles, vibrations, stresses, and nightmarish rewiring - i plan to get working on the supercharging package over the next couple of months - so far it's very promising - we should be able to have a low boost, bolt-on DIY in a weekend install that keeps the AC and gives about 310 or so at the wheels for under 5 grand
