Hi Winston968 and other 9sixty8-ers
Winston - thanks for your reply to my 1st post , I'm a newbie to this and my access seems limited until I qualify to Rookie status hence the new topic [ and no pics ] .

I am green but I think my 9sixty8 is Aventurine rather than Amazon.
Adelaide to Sydney, a long way, I haven't done that since I was a teenager in a Kombi Camper with my family in the late '70's.
I've been a Vw guy for years and Sydney certainly has some great VW speed shops, I have a 1303 which is getting 944 running gear and a modified 2.1ltr air cooled engine with a porsche fans shoud. But enough of that this forum is all about water coolers.

My 9sixty8 I plan to use as a daily driver - depending on well ...... a number of things, gas milage and maintenance are the biggies for me here. Petrol is $NZ160+ for 98 octane and the NZ dollar isn't the most robust currency. Also it is hard to give up my reliable New Beetle - which is nothing fancy but since the Bilstien / eibach spring combo up grade - is a whole lot more enjoyable, plus it has a good stereo which makes the drive home all the better.

Sorry - I know nothing about 9sixty8's but more about VW's and air cooled Porsches.
My brief exposure to my 9sixty8 as compared to my 911SC and for that matter my 2ltr New Beetle is the 'Sleeper' feel - it has so so much torque, it just accelerates with now hint of stress or stain. I'm looking forward going to a track day and seeing what it feels like when it's legs are stretched.

Hello e01,

Welcome to the forums. Here's a really great mod for the stock airbox and filter that you should consider:

http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtop...p;hl=airbox+mod

It will give you even more punch and costs about $60 or so. I did it a while ago and have been really glad I did. There are many other little things you can do, and of course, some bigger things as well. My 968 has been my daily driver for almost 3 years now - absolutely love it! Like many of us, I am "tweeking" little by little, to get it just right for me. Before that, it was a 944 that I also enjoyed tremendously.

This site is a FANTASTiC resource, mostly because of the great people here, many with years of experience with the 968. I hope you are enjoying getting to know everyone and I wish you the best of luck here at the Forums.

Cheers!

-Scott

Welcome

My 968 has been a daily driver for the entire 13 years that I have owned it. I've found it to be utterly reliable. No major problems beyond a clutch hose failure and a water pump failure. Stay on top of the maintenance and pay particular attention to the postings that are discussing timing and balance shaft belt failures that appear to have resulted from the age of the belts.
