Probably part of the upgrade. A few mentioned that they were having trouble with iPad images.

Did I mention that with the sole exception of the iPod, everything else Apple sucks .?! Creative as their products are, I detest working on any of their user unfriendly crap, and the glitch with the way it displays the new 968 format just gives me one more reason to vent. This was. sent from my iPad but that,s only because I got it for free, along with the free iPhone, and the free iPod so can,t turn down free stuff, even if it bugs me to use it. I dislike Bugatti Veyrons also, but would not turn down a free one..

According to the snarky hipster on the "I'm a Mac" commercials, "It just works". Do you mean to tell me that's not true!? [Image: blink.gif]

i find pc guys are just resistant because the mac is so easy to use, BUT you have to relearn things - you have to start using other keys on the keyboard, and forget about "right click"

my wife is one of them - she hates macs, even though they work, don't crash, and are faster

that being said, i'm not a fan of the ipad - i don't like touch screens for typing

LOL, one of the most common complaints( and I can certainly attest to this ) is that they are much, much, much, SLOWER than PCs. True, they don't crash nearly as often, in part because the viruses out there just do not get to them, but they are slow as a banana slug doing the moon-walk , compared to any PC, even those from a few "generations" past, and Apple's m.o. is so inflexible that it almost gives you the sense you're running a view only program. No multi-tasking allowed !

well, i've had macs since the first ones, as well as pcs, and always gotten the hotrods of both - without exception my macs have always been faster than the pcs - in fact, on average about twice - plenty of documented stuff out there to prove that too

they don't crash, not because of virus issues, but because of windows having its own problems - you constantly have to fiddle and tinker with windows, and all the stupid little settings and crap you have to download and install are just plain crazy

i've had my current mac for about a year now - never jammed up even once - we ran a couple of tests and it's a lot faster than ayn's new hot rod pc, even on the most basic stuff

but i know pc people and they just don't want to learn mac - for whatever reason, they just refuse to believe that it's this easy - they also refuse to pay for the superior product, clinging to the idea that cheaper is better, because there are more of them

as for multi-tasking, that's where macs excel - i can run countless simultaneous programs, but the pcs in the house jam up if you have more than a couple of them open and doing things at once

all that being said, apple has a huge downside - software availability is limited - the good news is that i can also run windows, and any program that runs on it - i can even do that WHILE running mac - so, that downside is pretty much gone now too

by the way, the rest of the world is figuring this out too - apple market share has doubled in the last 3 years

oh - and also, windows is coming to an end with version 8, and get ready, it's a clone of mac, not unlike the first windows GUI was

I'm a PC guy, but I have to admit I LOVE my iPad. It's especially good for the calendar and the 10 hour battery and excellent picture for watching movies on those coast to coast flights. However, the 968 Forum now doesn't appear to be very iPad friendly. It seems I no longer have access to the "View new posts" or "Today's active content" links which, on first impression, renders the iPad almost useless for this site.

If you click on your "settings" menu (top right), you will see that there is a "View New Content" button.

The "iPad" version of the forums is now the same as the mobile version.

Before when you had the full site on the iPad, did you have to turn off your Rich Text Editor to be able to use the site? Every time I tried to click in the reply box it crashed Safari on the iPad for me...

The world is full of two kinds of people. Those who relish Choice, and those who prefer Focus.

On the one side, there are those who enjoy, and insist on, having choice. These are PC people, and they are willing to put up with drivers and incompatibilities and the like because they feel in the long run it can be cheaper and more fulfilling. They are willing to spend hours addressing issues with compatibility between various makers' components, and many enjoy this sort of activity. Although often cheaper in dollar terms, the process is expensive in terms of time, but "choosers" are seemingly OK with this.

On the other side, there are those who are either paralyzed straightaway by having to choose, who fear making a wrong choice, who fear that their choice will be criticized, or who are concerned that something better will come along once they've chosen. There are also those who do not want to know "how it works", they just want it to work. These are the Apple crowd, and they are willing to give up choice, and many do so gratefully, in exchange for something that should work even if in a limited scope. Apple does a great job marketing to this crowd and their resultant sale of gadgets is very high, but this is also the main reason Apple has never penetrated the corporate/business space, where speed/efficiency/flexibility/choice are the order of the day.

IMHO. [Image: wink.gif]

I don't know about this macs are much slower than PC slander. It really is baseless. Back in the day my macbook pro (Core 2 duo version) wasn't even in the same league with any other PC laptop at running windows (Except maybe a $3500 8 pound 2.5 inch thick alienware laptop). Also, the argument that apple has no place in business is part of the past. There's a revolution happening.

yup - many businesses are switching over to macs - they are finding that they are just more stable, and require less support, which lowers down time and operating cost - this is something that only recently have businesses come to recognize as a very real factor - many companies who do this are eliminating their computer support staff, thereby saving a lot of time and money

it does mean that you have to be fairly self contained, as interfacing with others is often more difficult

i have both types of machines, and probably will for some time - some things are just better on a PC - currently i have 5 PCs and 4 macs up and running and serving various purposes, one of which is a macbook pro that is running both windows and mac, because the tuning software only runs PC

between service packs and downloads, every one of the PCs took 2 days to get fully up and running, and constantly require updates and maintenance, often crashing at exactly the wrong moment - the macs worked out of the box, and have yet to crash - for the PCs i can go down to best buy and get software - for the macs i have to hunt for hours online, and then wait for the disks to arrive

no perfect solution for sure

i definitely like the mac GUI better - i like having all of the commands and features on the desktop all the time (like the dock, and commands like "create new folder", "open file with", etc) - i also prefer keystroke commands to mouse commands - i like the drag and drop and click to open features - i hate having to open the "c" drive and go to the start menu and all the little annoying things of windows

i have noticed though that both platforms are becoming more like each other as time goes on, so who knows? maybe in time they will merge, and we will have one universal platform

Sorry guys, but if you speak to any CIO at a major company they,ll laugh at the idea of ever using Macs, and it has nothing to do with price. The businesses that are embracing Macs are mostly very small, no infrastructure operations..but the are a lot of those so the statistics you see are deceiving. As far a speed is concerned arguably ithe most credible source is the video gaming industry whose ability to run the most memory demeaning intensive graphics of anything seen out there is critical. Not one development and production company nor any of the top gamers will ever touch Apple, most will tell you you can run faster on an Internet browser than you can on a Mac. On a personal level, I,m just a GOM ( grumpy old man ) who resents the Ford model T " you can have it in any color as long as it,s black" mentality of Apple, but they have created cult following so I,m sure there are a buch of features far more attractive than PCs. But processing speed or flexibility are not among those. Not even close.

i think your information is out of date and you need to do some more reading - things are not like they were 5 years ago - a good example of big business would be the biggest one in the country (the US government) - the white house uses mac - linked in is on mac, as is twitter - the CEO of nintendo uses macs - no, the use isn't overwhelming yet, but it is gaining

here is a recent article:

http://www.electroni....of.pc.in.work/

as for speed, just google "pc speed versus mac speed" - you'll find real tests like startup time, shutdown time, time to load programs, yada yada - i would be happy to put them side by side and compare real computer speed any time - i think you will be very surprised

LinkedIn and Twitter are probably very small companies. They may have millions of users, but I'll bet they don't have very many employees. While the cited article sounds like a big deal - 66% growth, in fact it goes on to say Mac grew from about 1.75% to a whopping 3% of the business market. That's not much. The fact that the White House uses Mac computers now just clinches it - on the down-side. [Image: wink.gif]

Curiously, I've been a global IT Director for 15 years and I have operations on-, and/or have visited-, every populated continent multiple times in the course of my work. I speak with people in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Europe, South Africa, Brazil and across the U.S. on a daily basis. I'm not aware of any corporation anywhere in the world that I deal with that uses Mac computers. Not a single one, large or small.

I did at one time use a small design partnership for some work on our website. And trust me when I tell you they were a major pain in my backside every time I had to deal with them. They knew graphic design, but they stunk at getting me a file in a format I could read, or making our website compatible with anything other than Safari - they were technologically useless. On the other end, the vast majority of the customers visiting my website(s) use Internet Explorer, with a bit of Firefox on PC, and a few using Chrome on PC. There are vanishingly few Mac customers, well less than 1%. This holds true for all of my domains worldwide, and was a source of frustration when my customers were all on IE and the design firm insisted on using Safari.

This is all in the chemical industry so maybe that is a "hold out"?
