Flash's SC setup - bigger better faster stronger
#81

Bob,is that power and torque ,with the air intake restrictor in place as the Stage 1 supercharger

or is it a larger one?

all done. it's amazing how tiny changes in flow related parts make huge differences in numbers. tiny adjustments in timing and fuel also make huge changes at this level. i really am out at the edge of the envelope.

temperature is also a very real factor. when it gets hot, power falls quickly. i am running as much as can be run without an intercooler, but i am all but certain that i would be right on the edge if i were ever to track this setup. i am also running into the limitations of the MAF.

in the end, i made some torque gains, and smoothed things out, but had to give up some upper end horsepower to keep things safe. i now have as much power as 91 octane and passing smog will allow (i'm assuming i'll pass, since i am tuning to the same mixtures as the other stages)

i'm not posting any charts or giving away any secrets at this point. i'm not even putting out numbers. unless somebody were to do what i have done to the engine, it is just not safe to try to get more power. i am very sure i would already have blown something up if i had not done what i have done to the engine to beef it up. so, i'm not even going to put the temptation out there, because i know some internet genius is going to screw with it, blow up their motor, and blame me.

So for us kooks putting in the stage three, without your tweaks and assume our setup and cars meet the necessary standards, what kind of torque and hp might we expect. I'm making my run to NJ tomorrow

p.s. - when i say "all done", i mean all done for the moment. i found something odd i need to see if i can fix. basically in fixing one problem, i created another. it's a flow thing. so, there will be one more day at the dyno before i can really be done, just in case it changes anything. dang it.

Sure hope I end up your way to see this set up live and in person. With 400 miles now on my lowly Stage 3 I'm very impressed with the power and torque at that level. But of course more is better and I'd like to see it. Great work!

not sure if more is better or not. the delays are really starting to bug me. i just had to make an executive decision and blow off driving my car to paso robles this weekend. i don't want to spend the time doing the part throttle mapping if there may be another change in the wind. i also don't really want to drive it that far on the tuning it has now. just too many things that could go wrong. i have all sorts of temporary hook ups that i don't want to remove until i'm done.

so, i'll have to suffer along in the SL550

Flash, we all know that you will never be "all done" and that's OK. After all, it's the journey. What the hell would any of us do if we finally ever actually got there.

true enough. i know i can be done with the engine, if i can just get this last glitch worked out. it's really very close. i'm just being anal.

but now i'm ripping into the stereo again, but that's for an entirely different thread.

thanks. really looking forward to monday. finally being finished is the primary goal now, not seeing how much more i can get. i wouldn't be going back, but i need to clean up the mix a bit way up top, and i want to see if i can fill in the small dips in the torque curve just a bit more.

pretty sure i'll end up at about 320hp and 270ft/lb at the wheels.

Boy, do I ever hear this. I know doing things right is the paramount consideration, but we only have a finite number of years on this planet, and my project has taken up a sizeable percentage of my allotment. There has to come a time for the fiddling to end, and to call it done, even if it's only a temporary "done." I just want to drive the dern thing already!

wednesday is it. whatever i end up with is what i get. i could have stopped, but since i know of the problem, and have an easy fix, and all i have to do is go back to the dyno one more time, i'm going for it.

lol - seriously, if i hadn't discovered the problem, i would already be done. i just can't leave something this glaring unattended. i already know where i will end up, i'm happy with the mix and charge temps. drivability is great. i'm good. just fix this little thing and one more set of pulls, and i'm shutting it down.

then i start working on the external cosmetics.

I would guess the answer is no intake restrictor given the power output.

I presume you're down to an 85mm SC pulley by now?

lol - you would be guessing and presuming wrong, as the answer is "nope" to both
