First start after picking car up...
#1

Picked up the car yesterday afternoon - drove it home - fantastic! Idled so smooth I couldn't tell in the shifter and the acceleration was unbelieveable!

Let it cold soak overnight - just went out to start it - started perfect, purred like a kitten right away, no running rough at first.

One weird thing - I turned on the A/C to see how it affected the idle and as soon as I engaged the A/C I heard a click-click-click that changed with the rev's of the engine. The A/C is working, just making a clicking sound. I checked the fans - turned them manually - that didn't seem to be the problem. Anyone have any ideas? I never noticed the clicking before.

Found the clicking problem - had to move the upper radiator hose out of the way of the fan.

ouch - REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY!!! the slightest abrasion creates a weak spot

ken had the same problem - got hot one day while testing - it expanded and blew coolant everywhere all over the dyno

Relax Chicken Little. It was only a few clicks. The sky is still up there.

How about a visual inspection first?

I'm with Flash on this one. This is a "leave you on the side of the road" number with no hope for in place repair. Plus you end up running the engine hot, and even if it's for a short period not worth the gamble for a small dollar repair.

Actually, upon further investigation, found that it was a little plastic doo-flippy thingy that holds the upper radiator hose to the other little bypass hose that was hitting the fan.

So nothing to worry about!

very cool

dave - i don't take any chances with radiator hoses - it's bad enough that most people still haven't changed them, and they are now more than 5 years overdue - any nicks at all and it's out of there

not worried about the sky falling - very worried about the temp rising

I'm all for erring on the side of caution. I was just saying that the recommendation should be tempered with a bit of investigation first.

i just did the same thing myself.

the water hose from the tank to the cooler that runs right behind the radiator fans is not very stiff. i was pretty dumb and let it dangle right onto the fans. knocked a hole right through the hose. went to order a new one for $90, can you believe that?, and then just bought a splice from autozone for $2 and a couple hose clamps.

upon reinstalling, i definitely paid much better attention to keeping the hose out of harm's way. i even zip tied it at one point. that sucker won't side line me again!

fair enough - i presumed that it was indeed hitting the hose, based on the first post

if it hit at all, i don't even risk it - one strike is all i need to say "you're outa there", especially if it has not been changed in the last 5 years - the piece of mind of knowing that a hose is not going to end up costing me 3 grand is well worth it to me

Darn - Now I have to add "change head gasket" to my list of things to negotiate with the team owner / spousal unit.

Thanks. Thanks ALOT!
