Gratuitous Autocross Photo
#1

I was enjoying our local NNJR-PCA autocross this past weekend, and a local pro photographer took photo's of all of us. Nice shoot, so I thought I'd share.

The Suspension upgrades has certainly made her sstick better, and the wider rims/tires help too!

Very nice. Was this a Meadowlands event? I may have to find a way to give autox a try.

Yup, Meadowlands. Come on down for one. Great warm ups between track days. There is a couple of Friday afternoon events coming up as well with MSNE.

Very cool picture. Gotta love Black 968s.

How does your car get classed with the suspension upgrades?

I get moved to an "Improved" class in NNJR-PCA. Production Class (P05) for other PCA clubs, ASP (Along with the GT3!) in SCCA. Car is competitive, as long as the driver is awake. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I ended up at 9th overall, in a field of 78 cars. First in Class. My Improved Class consisted of a Leda equipped 968 coupe, two prepped 944S2s, and me. Wild course for the Meadowlands.

Looking good Vaino! I can't wait to get out there with my 968, even though I'll be playing in the lowly stock classes on street tires.

Rob is not only a top-notch photographer, but a really nice guy as well.

ASP is where a lot of the really fast cars run in SCCA. I had to run there with my 944 turbo because of the suspension too.

I want to try PCA autocrossing, but haven't yet.

Where is the Meadowlands off of the turnpike? I work in Jersey during the week and could hang around for a Saturday if it were worth it.

Miles, your post created an irresistible temptation - pardon me for doing this.

Hmmm, I can't get the photo into this post. Never had this problem before, maybe this thread doesn't want my transgression.

Forgeline's with Hoosier's... I forget the exact model of the wheels though.

Yup, Forgeline RS's. 8x17 with 245/40-17 in the front, 9.5x17 with 275/40-17 Hoosier A6's. They fit nicely, with no rub, so far. On the track, I drop to 245/45-17's all around.

Why the drop to 245's all around for the track? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Mostly because I have a set of four V710's that are too heat cycled to be competitive on the Autocross and have lots of thread left, but are really sweet once warmed up on the track. I just dial back the rear swaybar a notch, and enjoy the rotation!

In truth, I think the 275/40-17's for autocross are too wide. I'll go for 255's in the back next time, as the turn-in isn't as crisp as I'd like. I can't get the tail to wag no matter how hard I try. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'm upgrading to Tarret Engineering Rear bar (Which doesn't fit with the stock exhaust, by the way), once I can get a mount that fits. Tarret is OEM'ed to Elephant and Weltmeister as the "Pro" bar. Darn thing is beautiful, but the bar wants to go straight through the exhaust hanger. Seems I'm the first 968 to run one. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I may have to bite the bullet and get the RSBarn exhaust and see if it clears. I think I'll give Pete a call.

I have a B&B you can use to check out fitment if you'd like. One of the hangers is broken, so I have to take it off to get that fixed anyways.

255's would probably work nicely at auto-x, with some 275's for the track. Car must be sweet Vaino!
