f.s. factory exhaust 56k mi
#1

i'm going to bite the bullet and purchase a new exhaust from the header all the way back.

i don't know what my original exhaust is looking like, but i soon will. it seems to work just fine.

anyone interested in purchasing?

i'm guessing i'll install the new one by new year's, but that's just a guess.

What kind are you getting? When you say you're getting a new set-up from the header all the way back, it sounds like RS Barn's, in which case, totally contrary to the Christmas spirit, I'm insanely jealous! Or are you having a custom system fabricated? Does it include a high flow cat? Please let us know how it turns out.

I just got my belts changed (better safe than needing an engine fix!).

While the car was in the air, I took some pictures (including some of the aftermarket exhaust).

From the tip, the exhaust appears to be a B&B model. However, I'm not sure.

Anyone out there know what this piece is? Does it add any horsepower, or just give a different exhaust tone?

Porsche,

What is the brown spray on your running gear and suspension and what is it's purpose?

yep, i ordered the one from pete at rs barn.

it was a real pleasure to deal with him.

the package arrived on my front porch on christmas eve.

came out in just a couple of days time from order date.

everything looks great out of the box.

haven't installed it yet because the garage is full of hardwood that we're finishing outside of the house to avoid fumes.

should get to the install late this week. i'm very excited about it.

and wouldn't you know, my prayers for the snow to melt off the roads came true and i'm going to be able to drive it right away to feel the difference.

it's been a rough fall here. tons of snow and temps dangerously low. and winter just started!!!!

i'll post results once i get 'er on the car.

That looks like a B&B cat back to me.

Wow, what a clean car. It doesn't look like it has been driven. How many miles does it have?

The brown stuff is cosmoline (sp?). Porsche sprayed it on there to protect against corrosion. I wish they didn't. It made a mess of a perfectly clean car. Usually the bottom of the car is so dirty you can't tell it's there. I've heard if you do a european pickup of a car it does not get that stuff sprayed on it.

Brian- OK, now I'm officially jealous beyond words. A couple of quick questions:

- Do you have any other mods on your car, such as a chip or the holes-in-the-airbox mod?

- Does your RS Barn setup include the high flow cat?

- Is your car primarily a street car, or do you use it mostly on the track?

I'm very anxious (as I'm sure many others are) to hear your impressions of the seat-of-the-pants power gain with this exhaust, and whether you feel an improvement across the rev range, or mostly in the top end. The weight reduction alone should be noticeable... Thanks!

cloud,

i'll post the results when i get it all installed. i'm very anxious, too. i had to install some hardwood in the bedrooms this week to keep the wife happy. figured it would buy me some free garage time. she's happy now, and soon i will be, too.

i bought the whole system from pete. header, cat, muffler, and all pipes (including tip).

i haven't begun racing yet. i would be interested in getting into it sometime in the future as a novice. i just bought the car last easter. the body was nice, but it needed a little tlc. had to do the brakes and the ignition. needed new tires, battery cables, battery. lots of maintenance items. dme replaced, couple other bad relays. i think my torque tube is on its last leg.

it did come with an autothority chip. i thought about changing it, but i've heard that it won't help that much. i did the air box holes mod this summer. my compliments to the chefs. nice improvement.

hard to concentrate on work now!!!!

That lovely brown stuff is cosmoline. Manufacturers (such as Porsche), spray cosmoline on the undercarriage of the car to protect the car during transit to North America.

When cars are prepped for show (such as a concour), the car is commonly de-cosmolined. I've talked with a couple of guys who have removed the stuff and said that it is a "messy" and difficult proceedure.

As the car only has 2,800 miles on it (not a typo), I'm considering cleaning the bottom of the car to make it as attractive as the top. However, leaving the cosmoline in place keeps the car "stock."

That said, I may still remove the cosmoline.
