Euro Corner Lamps
#41

Sure enough, mine stick out a bit. Not nearly as much as Austin's, but they're definitely not flush with the foglights. But since I'm eventually going to replace my fog lights with brake duct scoops, I think I'm going to leave it alone for now. Nice job on the fix, though.

Different strokes, I suppose... I detest the clear ( sides ) lenses look, and also prefer this car with bumperettes than without.

Any photos with the lights on? How do they look at night (dusk)? Thanks!

Man, I like the look. I'm ordering some from Sunset (currently $57.91 + s/h) soon. Seems like a simple install... would you say it's simple enough in one's own garage (don't need the car on a lift)?

I'm REALLY tempted to do the RoW headlamps too (with city lights in the down position). Anyone know if it's as simple as adding the 5W bulb to the US headlamp, or do we not have the extra hole (giggity)? Would be a huge difference in cost...

Thanks everyone!

I don't know about the ROW headlamps - but I've been running the daytime lights relay (just plugs in under the dash) for the last 8+ years - lights up the fog light driving lights only when you start the car...ordered the relay through Sunset...

Thanks, I moved my line of questioning there.

The euro corner lamps (turn signals) smoothed out the lines of the front of the car when I installed them. Their color is orange/red. I had to do a little adjustment of the fog lamps to get the fit just right. Bought them from Sunset. From what I understand, the bumperettes were "add-ons" to satify US safety regs.

Yeah, I MUCH prefer the bumperette-free look.

close - it wasn't quite safety regs. it was insurance based regs. here in the states we require "5mph bumpers". that means that no damage other than paint can occur in the front or rear at 5mph in a direct front or rear collision. due to the body curvature and the lights, that meant that bumperettes were needed.

i also like the cleaner look without them. i think the bumperettes date the car. if i could figure out a way to delete the rears, i'd do it. painting them body color looks worse than leaving them alone too. no good answer there.

Were the rears also add-ons for the U.S., or were they on ROW cars as well?

Nope, not on ROW's.

If you like, I'll post a pic of my car's rear.

lol - funny

the rear of an ROW looks ok, because they have the long plates. unfortunately on our cars it leaves a big blank space that looks goofy.

Lol, I knew the 'rear' thing was imminent, that's why I especially added 'my car'.

One back-end coming up! (here we go again :-))

IMO, those bumperettes are completely useless. They won't prevent (nearly) any damage, unless you hit them with a another car in a nice and straight angle. Plus, if that car's bumpers are a bit higher or lower they will miss the bumperettes anyhow.

Not much of a trade-off. Insurance companies should be busy insuring, not messing with carefully thought-out car design.

How about a Euro plate with your assigned numbers/letters?

How bad could the ticket be?

here in california, pretty bad, if they decide to fully prosecute. usually they just give you a fix it ticket, but it can be ugly if the cop decides to really push it. the bigger problem is that you absolutely will get pulled over. that alone is a huge hassle, even if he lets you go.

everybody should not be oredering from SUNSET NOW. January 28th is Customer Appreciation Day. They then sell eveyting at 15% above cost. You just have to order it on that day. Then you save BIG Bucks

They do this twice a year once in Sept and then in January. I had posted this before but i guess some just want to throw money away.

Yeah, if they get bent out of shape for having a GPS on your windshield (my Oakland encounter) I can't imagine what they would do about such a dangerous thing as a different shaped plate. Curious if D.S. has ever been pulled over for his front plate.

williamoss, thanks for the heads up on Sunset. I have a couple of things I need to order.
