RS Airbag Shroud
#1

As most of you know, RS Barn is closing shop. I tried to purchase an Airbag Shroud from the website, but it appears that thee are no more available.

So, if anyone has one they would like to sell, I'm interesting it buying it.

What’s an air box “ shroud “  ?!   Huh   Does anyone have a photo of that ?

It's the black plastic that sits horizontally in front of, and each side of, the standard rectangular air box. DS you would have had yours removed when you had your SC upgrade.

Ah,,  actually I never had that piece , I have a “late” 1994, and I believe Porsche no longer put them on cars after late 93 or early 94 production .., not sure though .

Hmm, that front section looks a bit vacant and somewhat untidy without the shroud, but you filled it in with an SC .... good move!

My car is also a 94 and lacks the front and rear engine bay shrouds. The RS Barn shroud just fits over the front of the airbox and helps direct colder air into the intake ports. Cold air = more horsepower.

Indeed, it does look vacant and no way near as “clean” of an engine bay without it   !    You can buy the shroud and even though the brackets to which it secures are no longer on the car , there are many ways to keep that in place by wedging some  plastic or rubber “ stopper-like “ pieces in just a couple of places ..I think even wine bottle rubber corks ( sacrilege, lol ! ) will work .  But the tolerances are small, and actually even if you place it there it’ll fit in place just fine, it won’t shake and rattle so it’s noise-less.  But yes, if the RS Barn shroud is designed to allow in more cold air, all the better !

On the Fiat 124 I owned way back in the 70s, I called the engine cover piece   “ The shroud of Turin “  Tongue

( for the very few here who may not know... Fiat is produced in Torino ..)

Hi Chris,

That is not an RS Barn part, just Porsche. You should be able to get one through Porsche Parts.

Jay,

You are correct, that is the Porsche part. RS Barn produced a shroud that was designed for the later cars which didn't come with the Porsche shroud and which, like mine, don't have the brackets to mount the Porsche part.

Mine doesn't have the bracket either. It just lays right in there...
