dyed my carpet
#1

Well I had asked previously if anyone had dyed their carpet and got no response so I figured I would be the guinea pig.

My cab back shelf area and transmission hump were totally faded. My carpet is blue and those areas were almost light grey to light greenish with a sligt blue tint left.

Bought carpet dye from Leather Magic. Came out amazing. Taped off areas, sprayed the dye onto carpet brushed it in and it looks as good as new. The carpet feel did not change much, however it was already quite bristley.

If anyone wants to do it taping is important to stop overspray and I would recomend on vynl areas to apply armor all or 303 first so that the dye does not even stick if oversprayed. Overspray is not tough to get off, just some water and cleaner. They recommend alcohol but I tried a cleaning solution first and that worked fine. The overspray had not really dried when I cleaned it off.

Very interesting - thanks. My cashmere carpet is faded in some areas, but overall it's in pretty good condition. Following your lead may be the best route to the next interior upgrade.

The whole of my interior carpet was dyed (dyed black on black carpet), used an industrial type carpet dye in a hand operated sprayer. It dried stiff but was soon softened up with a hard brush, i think the pile is marginally stiffer than it was previously, but not enough for you to notice unless you really looked for it. Again, would highly recommend masking off, in particular, beading - but excess is easily removed. It has been like this for a year now (including carpet on door panels) with no areas showing wear, no transmittal to clothes/items placed in the car etc etc. Thought i might have to touch up areas such as where your foot rubs in the footwell, but not had to as yet.

Also sprayed my car mats so that everything is the same shade.

Has anyone tried the same or similar product on the rear luggage cover? Mine is faded like eveyone elses. I have turned it over but would love to be able to dye it black again.

Hello,

I'm curious to hear how the dye jobs are holding up...

I have always like the deviated carpet look and my Coupe is black with cashmere interior and I'm thinking about dying the carpet black rather than change it out for black in order to get the deviated look - so what/any thoughts on doing that???

I dyed cab storage carpet from cashmere to black a few years ago.
No problems and looks the same as the day I did it.

Do you think that this would work on the rear luggage cover as well?

I recently used some leather dye on my gear knob which was a bit rough and scuffed. It worked an absolute treat - $9 and looks like new.

Thanks,

Peter

I just ordered a P940 Cashmere Beige carpet dye kit from Leather Magic. Looking forward to the project. I'll post  pics when I'm done.
