Gents, I could use some "HELP" in removing the Distributer Rear Housing Bolt. How do you hold the large nut while removing the bolt? Does Porsche have a Special Tool for this and if so is there a Tool Number? For those that have done this job what did you use? The rear housing crumbled and took out the Cam Belt. I have located a good housing but have to get this old sucker off. Not the least of my problems but have to start somewhere.

To loosen , a spanner and i use an airtool (manual would do as well) with the right torque bit to remove/loosen the bolt .

Use a torque wrench to install the bolt again 65 -70N , you need to do the timing off the camshafts if you take it all out .

You could mark it , but it's better to do the timing of the camshafts .

You hold the large nut with a 30mm box end wrench. You loosen the screw with a 8mm alen head socket on a breaker bar.

You don't have to lose the cam setting. BEFORE you loosen the screw, replace the screws that held the rotor with 5 mm screws and thereby hold the adjustable plate in place where it was. Don't undo these until the big screw is in place and torqued. The picture shows the pieces.

Normal threads. Also you really should replace that bolt after you remove it, they do shear.

Trivia Answer: Yes. Powersteering and Air conditioning adjusters have left hand threaded nuts.

The camshaft bolt is a 12 point or triple square not an allen. Buy a high quality toolfor removal. It also helps to have someone hold 30mm wrench while you press in while breaking bolt loose. You should get a nice pop when it lets go.

Triple square , nice to know . we call WV tools here since they started on those i guess .
