Damper plate

Hi, I'm planing to Replace the damper plate on 92' 968 does any body know or have replace one before?

It's on jack stand and I'm getting ready to drop the muffler, dissconnect the trany line and harness. Does anybody have the procedure to R&R the damper plate? thanks

Assuming you mean clutch disc damper plate:



I don;t think you can RR them........But I think you can still buy a new one ....



Consider new pressure plate, new spring disc , new release bearing...while you are in there.....700$?

I have automatic 968, the rubber is crack on the plate. I'm going to replace with a new one of course. Could anybody shed light on this subject?

do a bit of searching here - you'll find some threads about this - not a pretty picture - i'm still working on a solution, but am a few weeks from getting near it

I had it done last year, the rubber disk was cracked completely through; upon acceleration and deceleration there would be loud metal to metal contact. List price was around $1200, I found a couple of discount places arround $995; then found a local shop that wanted the work that gave me a better deal on damper plate (around $900) if they did the job.

Having checked progress at the shop a couple of times during the repair, this is a job that really benefits from having a lift available. If I9+ recall there are also some transmission fluid lines to remove in addition to the exhaust system and drive train. Even with the lift they had a heck of a time with a bolt on the damper plate, took a couple of hours of persuasion. I doubt if you could get enough leverage underneath with the car on ramps or stands to remove that bolt.

I opted for having the shop do the work confident that something else would require attention that I could do myself. They told me that the bearings were going on the alternator. Sure enough a year later the alternator is failing, even a new regulator didn't help. I ordered a rebuilt unit today, should get it in time for the weekend. From what I've read it's more time consuming than on most cars, but doable. I'll know soon enough.

Try calling Sunset Porsche in Portland. I got a new damper (flex) disc for about $700 plus freight a few years back.

this one is tough - the last time we heard that anybody tried to source this, they were unobtanium - then somebody found 1 at a dealership and paid a ton for it

i am working on an aftermarket replacement, but i am quite a ways off yet

I was ASE certified for several years, until it expire. Anyway, I got the muffler, heat shield, starter, harness connector out and planning to remove the axle shafts from the transmission if the weather corporate this week. I'm going to take my time doing this one, very tired when get home from work. So I will keep you guy posted with pics and maybe some direction of what to do and not to do.

Well I went through price shock when I had mine done a few months back.........Right Flash. When all was said and done it cost me .............$1100.00 for the Damper. I found it on the internet in VA. The extra $2,000 in labor is what pissed me off more than the price of the part. They also of course found additional issue while taking things up and down. Total $4,200 They said it is about 11 hour labor if you know what your doing. I guess the bugger is hard to get in even after you have everything down. KY jelly maybe? Maybe they were justifying their bill. The price shock was numbing for an average income guy like me.

yeah - apparently it does not service easily like the manual - i'm not looking forward to the eventuality of that job on the white car - that's why i am working on the new part - i just hope i get it done before i need it

way too true - based on the projects i am on now, and the fact that i have some travel in my future, i am guessing i am about 3 months away from a prototype - i should be able to get to it about june 1 or so - won't take long once i get going - i already spent some time thinking about this, and i already have the design in my head

Why not mount a complete clutch on the flywheel of the tip? The clutchplate should eliminate the vibrations.
I don't know if there is enough space or so in the house?
