Discovered that the roughness and loudness in my car when it was first started and the strong gas odour was due to a crack in the inlet pipe to the cat originating around the port for the O2 sensor. Not sure what happened or why. Has anyone ever tried to weld such a thing?

not likely to work for long - it's stainless, which is hard enough to weld when it is new
