Corvette museum now has a basement

I think most of the car mags will follow Harris' opinion, the C7 is incredible value for money and a good car, but it's just not with the VERY best students of the class.

You may have a point. I have read that despite big improvements to the interior (something Corvettes have been severely criticized for in the recent past), the C7's is still not quite up to the standards of the "top students", so this may indeed be a deciding factor for some people. But I have read in several sources that the driving dynamics of the C7 aren't just outstanding for the money, but are overall slightly superior to even the best Europe and Japan have to offer at any price (within reason), so I guess the decision would come down to what's important to people. For myself, if I had an unlimited budget for a performance GT (and a place to drive it!), I think I would consider the Corvette as a legitimate contender to anything available for under $200K. But I'm anxiously awaiting DS968's test drive impression...

Again, I've never been a Corvette fan (although a nostalgic article in Motor Trend about the '57 Fuelie Vette was actually what got me interested in cars as a young lad), but I am encouraged that the C7 demonstrates that the US (sorry for the patriotic plug here) does have the capability of producing products that are highly competitive on the world stage, something I'm sure many of us were beginning to seriously doubt. I hope it's just the beginning of a long line of competitive American products.

I also am very encouraged and patriotically proud that , at least as far as it appears so far , quite a few American car makers are getting rave reviews for both quality and performance that rivals and even beats foreign competitors which are far more expensive in the same class. Cadillac with its CTSV line, Ford, Jeep, the new Vette, even a Chrysler model , though I don't remember which one , I think got a bunch of awards, and JD Power top ratings... Granted, this is all feedback after the first year or two so time will tell if these cars ten years down the road still have that solid thump when you close the doors, or no rattles, or leaks, or similar ailments, but for now it's looking good. I poke fun at the Vettes as many of us do, but was it not for the fugly rear end which they still can't get right for some reason, I would have no issues with owning one one...if I was looking for a new car.

No Vette in the company parking lot today either, it looks more and more that it might have been a visitor . Damn, But I can give you a review of the new BMW X 5 when I return from my trip to SoCal ( that's what Avis gave me today , and it has only 4 k miles on it )

I was skeptical of the new Vette but I went for a hot lap with a professional Bondurant driver and I was astonished at what that car can do. Interior quality was much improved too.

I've been working in Yuma AZ for several months and I often saw GM's pair of disguised Z06s and what I suspect to be the ZR1 prototype. Even disguised the new corvette looks impressive.

Lol - true enough. But with the reviews the new one is getting, I wonder how much of that image stuff is going to change. Probably not dramatically, but if, and this is a big if, the new model lives up to the early reviews, you could see a lot of potential 911, Audi R8, Aston Martin, and possibly ever Ferrari and Lamborghini buyers crossing over. Come to think of it, is that really a good thing for the Corvette's image?[/quote]

LOL

If they can afford a Ferrari, Lamborghini, R8 etc. a Corvette would probably be the daily grocery getter.

True enough - getting people out of a Ferrari and into a Chevy may be a stretch, lol.

OT but just to close on my previous post . Drove about 500 miles in the new BMW X5 - one word summary review : BLAH.

Even the twin turbo on the standard 3.5 L engine does little to make that weight move quickly enough for my taste .But am told the 5 L TT engine option has plenty of power. Ride and handling are mediocre, the hatchback rattles ( seriously ?! after only 4 K miles ? ) I'm not crazy about the ergonomics so back to the overall impression : Blah .

Also saw a handful of new Vettes today in Holywood, but soon as I neared the Beverly Hills border on Sunset Bl, they were quickly replaced by cars that cost 2 x, 3x, 4x ..the Vette's price. Probably not 2 or 3 or 4 times better considering the stellar reviews.
