Trying to avoid partial responsibility for what could quickly become the longest post of all time, I'll just hit the highlights.

Best of all, I recently installed an Alpine headunit with full iPod control. The little bugger just sits in my glove box, churning its little hard drive out while playing the songs of...

Neil Young

Bob Dylan

The Who

U2

The Beatles

Warren Zevon

The Band

John Mellencamp

Stones

Tony Bennett

The Refreshments

The Ramones

The Pretenders

Coldplay

Green Day

The Cranberries

Heart

Ted Nugent (hey, I went to high school in the late 1970s!)

The Go-Go's (hey, I graduated from college in 1985!)

... and more freaking Elvis Costello songs than you can shake a stick at!

On a serious note (wow, two puns back to back), I enjoy my Satellite radio and much like those iPod lists, I'm all over the place with a pretty eclectic mix too!

All the music I own is on my iPod. 3,400 songs.

My new Mustang is equipped with Sirius radio. Very cool. I may have to subscribe and get one for my 968.

My favorite Sirius stations? Channels 14, 15 & 16, of course.

I'll toss in with, among many others: Peter, Paul & Mary; Rod Stewart; Barry Manilow; ELO (does anyone remember what that means?); Billy Joel; many different classical; many Broadway shows; 50 famous speeches (or maybe it's 100, I forget).

I don't have an ipod. I listen to the classical station here in Raleigh, NC

I think there's nothing better than driving a Porsche and listening to Beethoven.

I couldn't resist adding to this thread. On the weekends, I am a DJ at the FantasyLand Hotel Lounge, which is located in West Edmonton Mall. (Same family who own Mall of America). My 968 is my daily driver, so I transport my computer and a few small cases in the back. People find it pretty funny that I am using a Porsche to transport my stuff DJ stuff. (It really isn't much more than a suitcase.) The lounge has a sound system in it already, so I just plug in and I am ready to rock.

So...my point is, my regular iPod is a 4GB Nano, but if it were possible, I would hook up my computer in my car and run that. You see, I have just under 60,000 songs that I use for DJing. (And before anyone blasts me, YES, they are all legit songs, meaning I own them.) That amounts to about 320GB worth of music, so until they make an iPod that big...

So, what I have on my iPod is whatever I happened to play on any one particular night. Each night I back up my playlist to the iPod, just in case my computer crashes. Which we all know never happens ;-)

I have been a DJ for about 21 years. I have done vinyl, cassettes, the odd 8 track even, and then eventually CD. Now it is all on my computer...and I tool around in a Porsche.

Who would have thought...http://www.968forums.com/style_images/1/folder_post_icons/icon10.gif

No you don't, by any stretch of the imagination, and particularly not for commercial purposes. You and the Lounge (gotta luuuuv that name) need to have nice, clear clearances in place to play this music for profit. I say this as a musician and composer.

I won't debate through a car forum whether the music is legit or not. I will say this though. I subscribe to a music service which allows for this sort of use...me and about 50,000 other DJ's in North America. The use of the music is legit, and legal. But you are right, technically speaking no one "owns" the music they buy on CD. The artist maintains the rights, of course. Anyway, been in the business a long time. Didn't mean to tread on anyones sensitivities.

Etnier - If you wish to discuss this topic off line, in a private email, feel free to contact me. My email should be listed.
