Clutch position
#1

As a still relative newbie to 968's and Porsche, after listening to my DE instructor on Friday tell me my clutch engaged to high up, I thought I would ask if there is a proper height or is it personal preference? I know when I drove a Flash's blue cab it engaged close to the floor.

normally it would indicate the clutch is worn .

the clutch is not adjustable .

let's start with what is "engaged". engaged is foot off the pedal, thereby transmitting power

i barely touch my clutch pedal, and i can begin to feel it slip. it is easily not more than an inch. any more than that and it is disengaged.

the distance i have to push it in order to change gears is relative to which gear. i have to push it more for 1st and reverse than i do the rest, decreasing as i go up. this is "normal" due to the amount of mechanical advantage in each gear. in higher gears, you can almost avoid the clutch altogether.

coming off the floor, after about an inch or so, the clutch begins to grab or engage

Perhaps poor choice of a word . What I meant was the gear catches high off the floor.

no worries - that's why i wanted to clarify things. you used the right word. you have a problem with your clutch. it should engage much closer to the floor.
