Hello everyone. I have been lurking for a while and thought it was time to post. I am new to the world of 968s. I just purchased a high mileage 1993 Midnight Blue Coupe. I bought it knowing it was going to need some mechanical TLC. Body wise it is pristine (Florida car, garage kept). The interior needs a bit of love, though there are no tears, stains, or anything huge. I need to get new dash vents, replace the gear shift knob, and give it a good cleaning. I need to fix the rattling in the back glass and will have to get the UV protection (for the gasket) on the rear window fixed. Mechanically the struts are shot, I am sure it needs brakes (including a flush), belts, hoses, filters, etc. I have already replaced the starter, constructed and installed a new starter harness. A water pump is on order, and I will preemptively replace the alternator. Compression is great, performance is wonderful, and eye appeal is amazing. I am new to the world of sports cars, though I was raised in a Porsche loving family. As I kid I woke up to Porsche posters including one featuring Mario Andretti. I have been an avid motorcyclist for 26 years and have always turned wrenches for myself. I am a little concerned there are jobs I may not be able to do. It bugs me that I cannot reset the Air Bag light, the previous owner just changed the battery and set it off.
Future plans include a carputer including 5.1 sound, some minor cosmetic changes, the keyless entry system (this weekend), window tinting, rims, a chip, LED change over, removal of the rear wiper, doing something with the cassette holder, dash lighting (this weekend as well), air box mod, and all the above mentioned fixes.
I have joined PCA, and plan on making this my primary internet forum, I have looked at the other three and like the temperament here. I appreciate the wealth of information you all are willing to share. Finally I hate to say this here, but this will be my foul weather vehicle, there is no way I will give up the R1150RT. You don’t stop riding because you get old; you get old because you stop riding.
