I know several people have installed these on their cars, and I'm interested in two things:



1. Are people happy with them? I've heard a lot of good things over the years, but a few possible negatives as well. Overall, are they a good product?



2. Where's the best place to buy them? From Canton directly, or is there a distributor people are happy with?



Since I'm going to be tracking the car a lot, I'll be changing the oil more often that I'd been in the past, so I'd like to cut down on the mess. Thanks.

No, I have not had any issues, but since I only drive the car a few K/year I don't really change the oil that often.



The part I ordered was [b]CTR-25-282[/b] - Oil Filter, Canton Racing, 20mm x 1.5 Thread



Seems to do the job for my needs and prevents all that oil dropping out during oil filter changes.

Is this all that's needed? No adapter of any kind? And yes, Summit is $15 cheaper. Elements are a few bucks cheaper, too.



I wonder why they went to four bolts rather than a single. In any event, a very cool looking piece. Between this, the D1R brace, and, let's see, what else... oh, yeah, the spanking clean, freshly rebuilt engine, complete with bead blasted valve cover and intake manifold, my underhood environs will soon be looking mighty spiffy. Egads, I hope I don't turn into one of those people, and start shopping for items to bling out my engine compartment, like a billet oil filter cap, stainless coolant reservoir, etc. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

My guess for the four bolts is to avoid the filter canister to not spin off when the lid (cover) is removed. I read somewhere here that some users were experiencing that problem if the lid (cover) had been tightened too much on the previous oil change.

I think that is correct. One user noted that when they removed the single bolt cap, the entire cannister backed out leaking oil everywhere. Using a four bolt design allows you to apply torque differently without causing an overtightened cap to spin the entire unit.



Andy, I just ordered the four-bolt unit. Now if I can just get the old filter out without creating a HASMAT condition.

Rotella is the last oil I used before tearing it apart. It was recommended to me by Terry Dyson, the owner of an oil analysis company who has been doing this for several decades, so I figured it was based on at least somewhat sound reasoning. Specifically, Terry found that my oil had relatively high concentration of unburned gas (which he told me is common in these engines), and that there's something in Rotella's formaulation that stands up well to fuel dilution.



But I take all things related to oil with a huge grain of salt. It's so difficult to obtain objective data, that opinions tend to be based on reasoning such as "I put Brand X oil into my engine, and two days later, my engine blew up, therefore Brand X is crap" (when in fact the trajedy could very well have had nothing to do with the oil), or, "I've always used Brand Y, and have never had any problems, therefore Brand Y is the greatest stuff ever made" (when he probably "wouldn't have had any problems" had he used any of a multitude of different brands of oil). Even so-called "experts" have their prejudices, which are often no more reliable than the examples I just cited. Plus, you never know when the manufacturere might change their formulations.



But my engine didn't blow up with Rotella, therefore it has to be the greatest oil ever created <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I put a adaptor under mine, I can't remember where I got it, I'll look it up tonight and snap a picture. I did it because the adaptor had a couple of ports in it so that at a future date I could have more sensors if I wanted, plus it pushed the top of the canster up about another inch which made it easer to hold while turning the lid off.

Yes, Rotella is synthetic. Although, to throw another kink into an already very convoluted subject, Mike Lindsey of Lindsey racing recommends, for racing applications at least, not only dino oil (he says "these engines just don't do well with synthetic"), but non-detergent dino oil to boot. This entails a 500 mile change interval, so it isn't practical for a street car, but it's just another data point in the wild and whacky world of engine oil.

Rotella can be had in synthetic and dino, and a blend. I've used a lot of it in the past. It was good oil but blends and formulas change, no idea what it's like these days. T6 is the full synthetic.

I am thinking of installing a canton filter as well , it does not bother me to much the oil spill , since i have a lift and always remove undertray when changing the oil , therafter a spray can off brakecleaner will clean up the rest , but it would make life easier for sure .



But a read a post somewhere from flash stating he had a slight rise in oil pressure .



Do other users had the same after installing one of these units ? higher or lower pressure .



What is the reason for this , more flow causing higher pressure , which would be a good thing .



Or is the oil pressure sender in between pump and filter , and is causing higher pressure because of the finer filter , so less flow this way ?
