Many of the "restrictions" on the site are to preserve the integrity of the database and archive of information, provide an opportunity for us to log everything, as well as prevent misuse or abuse of the site. Editing is very limited on new members, as is the ability to access certain areas and/or items on the site. This is primarily to help facilitate teaching people where things are, where they go, and how things work here. It is also designed to encourage cruising around the site and seeing what is here before jumping right in with things that might already have been discussed.
Access to profile information, for example is limited. We presume that Wellesley is a suburb of Boston, and that Boston seems easier to relate to, and hence the reason for change. No problem, we understand this was important to you. We are sorry we couldn't get to the change quickly enough. These things generally take a couple of days, as there is a lot of daily site maintenance, and we have to prioritize requests based on other things that need attention.
If you add a new post within a few minutes of a previous post, it is automatically added to the previous post, hence why that showed up like it did.
