I've been carrying a new chain and pads in my toolbox for two years - but I haven't tackled doing the replacement (of the original parts that are still in my engine). Congrats on doing this job. I think you should make a little holiday trip to America and help out some of your fellow 968 owners. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Nice work.

Cool! Where exactly did you find the Variocam guides? There's a lot of mystique surrounding these ... are the top of bottom guides different? Only one is available, shares a number with 928, etc.

Hoi Vedder,

Nice work.

I see at your signature that you have the Goodrich brakelines.

I've have this package but haven't placed them yet (it is planned in some weeks when I will changing the rotors and brake pads).

The package of the Goodrich brakelines contains 4 pieces. I'm wondering what to do whith the rear brakes as they got standard steel lines just until the end and are screwed in the calipers. Changing the rear brake pads is a little difficult because of the lack of any flexible (rubber) lines. Did you somehow put in the Goodrich lines also at the rear ?

onthe rear, the stainless lines actually go up more toward the center of the car - if you crawl under there you will see them at the end of that hard line, on the trailing arm

Given that the variocam pad/chain replacement entails removing the camshafts, I chickened out and had a mechanic do it. Given the discussion on another thread about the witchcraft involved with setting the cam timing, how did you manage to do it?

Well, regarding the variocam maintenance ive done it about 3 times, the first time was when the HG was replaced, but i forgot to put the 3 screws to lock the timing, so the Ignition timing was not perfect, then i got 2 dial gauges and follow the proceding on the manual, a bit confusing, but after reading some treads about it its actually quite ok, just need a Air compressor and the dial gauges with made extensions.

theres a tread with a week old that explains it quite well.

I also replaced the oil valve on the variocam with o-ring. see pic.
