Best wiper blades?
#1

Sort of a humdrum question, I know. Have been using Bosch Excels for many years with good results. But the new Icon is so cool, and really wraps the glass curve. Bosch does not show fitment for the 968, but my son in law put them on my daughter's 2003 Jetta so I think the arm design is the same. Anyone try these?

Bosch Icon

They are a little pricey so I thought I'd query the crowd rather than spend the money first.

I have tried this type of blade on mine. Unfortunately there was not enough strength in the arm spring to hold the blade tight to the windscreen.

Not sure if this is because the blades are stiffer or the the arm spring is just old and weak.

I was going to check these out as well and am dissapointed to see that they do not work on our cars.

Who better than the manufacturer to tell you that it won't fit the 968?

Stick with the std BOSCH.

not for the 968, but i do have an opinion on those wipers

i've never really had a problem with wipres, and except for the mgb, never felt the need to upgrade (those were a 1 speed motor that barely worked in light fog, so something had to be done)

but, after nearly getting killed on my first run back east in the denali on stock wipers, i pulled off at a truck stop and bought some of the standard replacements you can find at pep boys - they worked "ok" for about an hour - then they went south, just like the oem ones did

i tried rain-x - wore off very quickly, and then left a nasty set of black streaks across the windshield

then i tried the rain-x wipers (both types) - no better

then i tried the bosh tri type (what ever they are called) - no better

just for giggles, another set of another off brand - nope

finally, i tried the icons - WOW! i can see - these have been, by far, the best wipers for that car yet - i attribute it to the downforce provided by the "spoiler" - they definitely seem to hug the windshield and peel off the water - i will be buying another set this weekend, just to be safe

i'm not running them on the 968, because i have the wiper arms with the spoilers already on them

Interesting. So you theorize that the Icons will work better under speed? How do they work at a light?

I put a set of the Bosch Icons on my Audi wagon, mostly thinking about heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada getting to and from places to snowboard. They work very well, though the heaviest snow I've seen will build up at the margin of the swept area and start to overwhelm the defroster, and then start to encroach on the swept area. Kindof annoying, but how much worse would it be if the wiper blades started skating over the build-up?

Good blades, but I have the Bosch MicroExcel+ (or whatever Paragon Products had in stock) on the 968. Those seemed to work just fine to and from Thunderhill in the rain for a track day on Halloween. No aftermarket downforce mods in the windscreen area of any kind. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

the icons have worked very well at a light too - no issues anywhere

side note - the spoilers on my wiper arms on the 968 are a coveted porsche item - no, i don't know the option code, or if they were a dealer add-on

I have the spoilers on the wiper blade arms on both my cars and, for that reason, I have not replaced the blades. They do keep the blade on the window. I was always hoping I could just get a refill to keep them "original" - an odd thought given that little else is original anymore. At some point, I guess, I will need to abandon them.

If you go to a Porsche Dealer they will most likely want to sell you the entire arm. But as Flash notes you can replace the inserts on the stock arm. I use the same replacement inserts on the 968 as I use on my A6 Avant. You just need to trim them to fit.

I've had these on my coupe for about 6 months now, and absolutely love them. Big improvement, and I have no problem with them staying on the windshield, even without spoilers on the wiper arms (maybe my arm springs are better than some?).

Thought about trying these after seeing how well they work on our Cayenne, and it turned out well.

i don't think those are the icons (bosch makes a few different models) - but, i tried those - i think the denali windshield is too vertical for them - they floated off very easily

haven't tried them on anything else though

Thanks Chris. THey look good. I am in pretty bad need of a set. We got rained on a couple of weeks ago and I was darned near blind.

One thing that does work on chattering blades is to rub them with glycerine, available at drug stores. Makes them very supple and prevents the rubber from getting so hard that the blade bounces over the windows. And, if some is left in the bottle, you can even stay regular.

Just saw a commercial for a new blade by RAINX.
Seems to be the same idea as the ICON.
They, unlike BOSCH have a blade for the 968. They show the fronts at 19" and the rear blade at 20".
http://www.rainx.com/Products/Wiper_Blades...acturer=Porsche

Has anybody got them yet?
