Best way to splice into existing wires
#1

I'm in the process of installing a back-up sensor on my daughter's 04 BMW 325i, and I need to splice into the wires that connect to the back-up lights, logically. The wires are very light gauge (I'm not sure of the actual gauge), comparable to stereo wires. For you guys who have a lot of experience installing electrical components like stereos and nav systems, what do you recommend as the best way to tap into these wires? The back-up lights are on the trunk of her car. I've identified the wires, and have found where they are in the bundle that goes from the trunk into the body, but the entire bundle then disappears into the bowels of the bodywork, so there's no electrical component, such as a relay, that I can easily connect to. So, I'm forced to tap into the wires. What type of connector is best suited for this task? Thanks.

Scotchlock wire-taps are easy to find and reliable.
