So my "new" 968 arrived in Ft Worth, TX from CA at 1:30 p.m..
DAY 1: By 2:00 p.m. I was stuck in the middle lane on a somewhat busy road. Pushed the car into a parking lot with a little help and opened the hood. Missing a belt! I crossed my fingers and looked closer, and to my great relief the timing belt was fine, just the alt/comp belt gone. I was only a mile from my shop (wood-shop) and grabbed the tool bag and a small floor jack. 20 min later had the new belts on and off I went. later inspection reveled several thing that needed attention.
Day 2: Lets see, rear hatch wont open, sun roof wont close, no power seats. Took my laptop out to the car (in my drive way) and did searches for each problem on this forum. Seat was unplugged, removed the seat from floor plugged it all back in, problem solved.
The rear hatch was a job, after getting in the fetal position, pulling on the wire and finessing the hatch it finally came free. Loosened up the lock block assemblies and closed again, then tightened back up. Works great.
The sun roof, well thank you guys for all the posts, the wire was all wadded up in the hole under the motor. one of the gears was devoid of teeth and the other cracked. Installed the new gears and reset the wire and arms. And reset, and reset and closer, reset. It now works just right!
Later that evening I loaded up the wife and 2 kids and went for a drive, smiling big the whole way! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif[/img]
Thank you to everyone on here that had posted the how-to' on this site, would have taken a lot longer to do all this stuff but I took my time, read everything, including everybody's 2 cents worth, and had a good time doing it.

yes I got my moneys worth and then some. I will be upgrading my membership in the very near future, money well spent!
Next project: The rear glass does not seem to be seated in the frame well, lots of flex, thoughts on that?

Let's all send positive vibes wmuldowney's way, and hope it's not too bad, but there is a history of rear hatch glass delamination issues with our beloved coupes, and it seems like a very labor-intensive operation to fix it. Mine is starting to show the early signs, but not bad enough to worry too much about, yet.

Step #1: Spend an hour or so doing a search. I believe Duckman took his to a chain glass repair shop (can't remember which one), and was very happy with both the results, and the price. But unfortunately, some have not fared as well. Good luck.

will do. Been doing some forum searches and now googling. I will call some glass shops in the am. Also, the glass has discolored spots all over, somewhat uniform, perminately "staining" the glass. Is this just old age?
The spots in the glass are the polarization (like sunglasses) the age makes them show up. If you look at other vehicles through polarized sunglasses you can see the same spots. Except Mercedes, the windows will be a shade of blue.
what i have noticed is that the spots only seem to appear on windows with defroster wires in them - i tend to think it is delamination between the layers of glass, and not the polarization separation, though it could be essentially both i suppose

It was only from all the reading first that I was able to go right to the problem.
The funny part was me walking around my Porsche with my MacBook Air in one hand comparing pics! Yeah my neighbors think I'm a real snob now. LOL
lol - my neighbors are sure i'm nuts - i have 2 computers in the garage mahal (one desktop mac, and a laptop pc) as well as the powerbook i drag down on occasion, for exactly these kinds of reasons
Day 3
Adjusted the emergency brake, it works now.
Air Box Mod! Wahoo, that really helped! Installed a new K&N filter, sounds a lot better now.
QUESTIONS:
Anybody got a line on new carpet? My leather/vinyl/ are all in great shape but the carpet is beyond bad, wouldn't even dye it. I want a black carpet set.
Better AM/FM antenna reception? Thoughts on the stock antenna? Scrap it all and go back to XM?
carpet - bummer - dealing with the glue will kill you - buy lots of beer first
antenna - could be the booster - yours is located in the roof near the antenna - if you have an aftermarket deck, they might not have connected the power feed to it

While researching came across the the post that showed carpet removal chemicals and a Heineken, I'll go that route just sub that for New Castle Brown Ale.
X-rad had a very informative post on his new carpet adventure. I thought it was my own great idea to put black carpet with the camel interior wasn't sure how it would look. No doubt about it now. Might do different piping color though.

i think i want to switch out my door pulls and trim rings to black - how are yours?
Also looking for the trunk privacy cover, the vinyl roll up thing.

Mine are great, so is the BLK dash (no cracks!) and center console. The only major blem is a previous owner hot glued the armrest closed when the hinge broke.
