Hey guys,
I decided to rehabilitate my third brake light and have found some corroded connectors in the light sockets (see pic). Any tips on how to clean these up?
Thanks!
Soak in vinegar for 30 min, then soak in a baking soda solution for a few minutes to neutralize. Should come out shiny like a penny.
Or, electrical contact cleaner and some steel wool or steel toothbrush would work.
Obviously those sockets can't be removed from the board so could I just submerge the whole thing? I watched a youtube video on cleaning connectors using this method so I already kind of had that possibility in mind, I just wasn't sure if this might damage the thing. Cheers
Yeah, with that foam in there it probably would be best to spray some contact cleaner and use a q-tip plus/minus the aforementioned l'il steel brush or steel wool.
That's actually a (heavilydegraded) rubber seal, which I've ordered a replacement for along with the bulbs. So maybe I could submerge it? I just wonder if I can get all the corrosion out using the brush/q-tip method. Maybe I'm overthinking this...
