Had to drive in slow traffic today. Car got warm but not hot. All the sudden its started to hawl from the font of the engine. Hard to place the noise but its loud and changes with engine RPM. Just did the belts. Drive it about 200 miles before this.
Engine seams to be running normal. Outter belts look ok. As soon as it cools down I'm going to remove the upper timing belt cover.
The car has 30k on it so I dont thing its the cam chains. Plus its LOUD. so I dont think its internal.
Can you describe a bit more the " howl " ? Metallic ? Any rattle ? Is it a a whine ? Squealing ?
Good news bad news
Found the problem ...
It seems the two small screws on the timing belt guard came loose or didn’t fit right. They were aftermarket but I thought I measured them and tighten them. Took out pulley, screws, guard, and both new belts ........
Good news is it looks like all the damage is unboltable/replaceable so no real damage to the car.
Guess its better than a bent valve or timing problems .............
Any recommendations on where to get the Porsche parts? they were OEM belts too ... ouch!
Sunset Porsche in Portland, Oregon. They seem to have the best prices on OEM parts.
Just finished cleaning up the engine getting ready for the new belts (again). Think I found the problem. The studs (spacer 94410224900) that the cheese bolts (N0147612) screw into had backed out of the block pushing the head of the bolt against the lower timing gear.
I cant be sure but it sure looks like this cause my problem. Something worth checking when you do a belt job.
They are replaceable and cheap so its not to bad.
