Thought I would just share with you. Most of the stripping is done. We are delighted to find very little rust. However, most of the panels were held together with black wood screws! Some of these Dominican mechanics are butchers. They have NO mechanical sympathy.

Now to start the re-build. We reckon on at least a year and about $5,000. At least that's our budget anyway. Our most expensive outlay is shipping stuff to the Dominican Republic. I think that the most effective way would be to get everything shipped to Miami then actually go over there and bring it back in suitcases.

Do any members live in Miami?

Yes, we have an almost matching pair. Don't worry, they'll be painted black before we fit them!!! The original Recaros are in the local upholsterer having new covers made. He's quoted $100 for one seat. Will post photos of the result. The driver's side seat frame is rusted solid. Probably due to it being left outside in the tropical rain with a leaking roof.

As this is probably the only 968 in the DR, it has to be saved. I know the budget isn't huge, but things like upholstery and paint are cheap here. Most parts are salvageable, except carpets and roof.

How expensive is it to get things shipped to you from PR? I work for a freight company and right now due to the crappy economy, and a few carriers hanging on by shoelaces, the rates for freight are SUPER cheap. We have a terminal in Puerto Rico so it may be cheaper to have a small crate of parts shipped there and find a way to pick them up from PR?

Also, look into UPS Freight, I think right now they are doing a 90 for 90 deal. 90% discount for 90 days (ending in Dec?).
