I'm really liking the Kinesis wheels but are they only show and no go or are the suitable for track use?

Best source (ie best price) for Kinesis?

They look the part but how's the quality?

Kinesis was bought by another company a few months ago. I have no idea what their statis is today.

Personally, I would not use Kinesis on the track... And that is simply because Kinesis wheels (ones before they were bought out) are expensive and becoming quite rare. I would therefore not track them for fear of damage and abuse. Instead, I would use the Kinesis as my non-track wheels and get a set of OEM Porsche wheels for the track (probably made by BBS in most cases) - they will be generally cheaper and certainly more plentiful. Also, I believe Kinesis might be on the heavy side due to the majority or Porsche fitments being 3 piece. Kinda hard to go wrong with a set of junker Porsche 1" 1-piece wheels...

That being said, I have no idea if Kinesis wheels (now or then) are suitable for track duty.

They are no longer available new unless you get lucky and find a place that has left over stock. 
They are good track wheels, but becarful of buying some that have been heavily tracked. 
I have seen some failures. This hold true to any used track wheel. 

You'll have to search for a set that was on a street car. Parts are available. 
Kodiak makes replacement parts for them. Also google thatcher. He is the source for used parts. 
He may have the parts to build you a set.

I had 18x10 and they weighed right at 20lbs. Very light wheels.

They are my favorite wheel. Took me a year to find a good set of K58's 



I also had set of K27's
 

I did see a set sell last week for $1200

i'll look into what is going on with the company - they have a new address, and i know they sold out - the website is fairly empty - no idea what the story is though

They make bling type wheels now. No customer service for the old wheels.
If one called them with serial numbers, the answer would be "sorry we can not help you"..

i tend to think that somebody bought up the stock, and that is what is for sale - just speculation though - i'll find out

What about Fikse, they any good?

I have had 17" Fiske FM10s for 3 years and have had a problem. I do DE with PCA. I've had lot of complements but they are a bitch to keep clean.

I bought a set of Kodiak wheels out of Canada. 15 pounds 16-8.5 custom built. Cost $2000 plus $300 shipping. These were built specifically for my racing class. I went with 16s to save weight, tires are about $40 cheaper each and I run a taller sidewall which makes for very predictable handling. My buddies at RSBarn recommended 17s but I was doing this as a group buy - probably would have been $500 more if I went with the bigger wheel. I only raced in the rain with them so far so I can't tell the diffference yet - brand new set of R6 Hoosiers are mounted and ready to go :-)

If your goal is to be fast, run lightweight wheels on the track. If you are relatively new to track driving, buy a set of OEM wheels for cheap. Build your driving skills and when you are ready to race/turn up the wick at DE events, then get lightweight wheels.

Fikse was bought by Kodiak, so everything should be good.

the fikse wheel i was looking at had a less than stellar rep for sturdiness, so i passed - it bothered me a bit too, because it was lighter than the wheel i ended up with - i'll have to do a "wait and see" now to find out if they corrected the problem in the new production - they are slated to go back into production this march - i presume they bought the patterns, but are making them up there now - anybody have any more info on that?

I really don't know, I would say they got rights, codes, patterns and some tooling.

I emailed Kinesis and they replied which I assume means that they are still in business. Although I cannot find any of the "older" rims on the site...

About Kodiak, I think the FX rim looks sweet (and strong). I'm thinking 17x9 but I don't know if they are good and how much they weigh. Has anyone tried these on the track?

Another great alterenitive is CCW. They will make whatever size and offset you need.
They have a bunch of different styles.
I've read great reviews and heard they have Great customer service.
I think they have a 2 week turnaround time from when you place the order.
