Besides our collective love of our Porsche 968 coupes and cabs, what other things and/or activities do you enjoy?

For me, I like watches - specifically Omega, snowmobiling, snakes and tennis!

I became interested in Omega watches due to my grandparents. They had an older piepan when I was growing up. Not too long ago, I started researching Omega and fell in love with their watches. Currently I have a new Seamaster.

Snowmobiling is a more recent interest and I thoroughly enjoy it. Sort of like riding a motorcycle, but a lot colder!!!!

I've had all kinds of snakes since I was a kid. From corn snakes to garter snakes to boas and pythons. I currently have one Halloween-phase Pueblan milksnake. She's a cutie! My goal is to have a very small collection (say no more that 3-4 snakes) of some very specialized species - Top of the list is a Green Tree Python. They don't get too big and once you learn how to cycle their enclosure for temp and humidity, they are wonderful animals to keep. Luckily there is a huge network of breeders out there specializing in captive born and bred Green Tree Pythons. Bad part is they are relatively expensive, and rightfully so I believe. Just like many things, you're not only buying the object/thing/etc., but you are also buying the seller. And, I'm on thin ice with the Mrs. as it is with one small snake!

Played tennis all my life. Haven't actually been on a court in about 7 years though. Would love to join a local club and get into some league action, but I find that time is a limiting factor and I am also having some physical issues with my arms and shoulders so I am hesitant to get back into it.

Unfortunately, 3 out of the 4 I have listed are not cheap! So, I do a lot of lurking on various forums, looking at pictures of watches, snakes and snowmobiles and wishing I had the time and money dive in feet first for all of them!!!!

Now if I sell my 968, I'll be able to get an Omega or two, a snowmobile and a Green Tree Python... Hmmm!

Pic of the milksnake and a pic of the Seamaster...

me next!

I'm kind of a transportation guy i guess. somehow i got into cars (peers in secondary school i guess) and have always had a love for water.

my dad got me into boats of all kinds when i was younger and i really developed a love for them all. currently we have a 21ft sailboat and a couple of fiberglass runabouts from various makes. (all working!) (now we aren't rich people, mind you, just sacrifice in other areas to have a fleet) our real loves are older wooden boats. we have a '47 Lyman with separate passenger compartments (passengers sit separately up front with no way of reaching the back, kinda cool) and we have a '67 sea skiff (mine). the lyman is in perfect condition from the mahogany wood to the engine but the sea skiff has been a great deal of work. its one thing after another. its a decent size boat with a cabin and all made of wood as well... basically these things need a full restoration every 5 years or so. at least a new coat of paint every season... used to be in tip top mechanical condition until we didn't winterize it right and the block cracked... its an old ford interceptor "y" block which they haven't made for 55 years or so... but found a new block and we're getting it back together as we speak, hopefully it'll be done this summer. (thats what we say every summer).

so lets see... boats, cars, ahh i have an '02 range rover which i take off road very frequently. pretty trick trucks, they have the adjustable suspension so you can give yourself a "lift" with the touch of a button. have a few off road goodies for that as well.

i also have a great many guns. not crazy, defend the compound amount, but more than most. i have a 1911 .45, ak47 with a 75 round drum clip, 2 mosin nagant rifles, shotguns, hunting rifles, etc...

thats about it i guess.

Chris
Besides cars, I like to make furniture. I have a small but decent wood shop in my garage.
Here's my most recent project. Headboard for the guest room
Chris-

You're a sucker for punishment!!! I've heard boats are a lot of work and upkeep! My stepfather has one and everytime I talk to him, seems like something else is either broken, recently replaced, or needing refinishing. And given the outrageous cost for gas, he hardly ever takes it out... I think it is a 37' Bayliner or something like that. He also has a Parker in which he and my mom tool about.

Paul-

Would love to possess the skills, tools and space to make furniture. At one point, I was contemplating getting into it, but then I realized I didn't have any space for anything - tools, new furniture, etc.!!! I envy those who can make quality furniture. I went through a stage where I would watch Norm and his New Yankee Workshop show and simply drool!! Your headboard looks very nice! Post up more pics if you got 'em.

P.S. Here's my drunk cat, ignoring me as usual...

I like watches too and your Seamaster is great.

I also like dogs and the right one likes cats more than anythings else.

And I love eating and drinking good stuff.

Cheers,
Jörg

the rest does not really matter, does it ?

p.s. But since I am married, #s 1, 2, and 3 are just as the title of the thread describes them: " passion / hobbies ( regretfully though, my wife won't appreciate if I indulge in the latter... sigh )

Hi end Hi Fi / Music

Good food, Red wine and Cognac

Computer Gaming PC/PS3

I find general DIY/home improvement rather relaxing and would rather try it myself than pay someone to do it. I generally do a better job, and if not, at least I can't complain

Once a year, I abandon my childern, dogs, wife, Porsches and all comforts and head north with a few friends in 3 heavily prepped Land Rovers for two weeks. We head into Botswana and up towards the northern border and the Ocovango swamps. We've also done portions of the 'Top Gear Botswana Episode' with a lot less crazyness. You can die out there if you get it wrong. We have to carry all water, fuel and food for the trip. We camp in the open and generally are visited by Lions and other curious animals during the night including elephants and Giraffe. Last year we had more rain than usual and the got 3 vehicles stuck for a few hours in the 'pans'. As you get a vehicle out, it starts sinking again. I'm currently preparing for the next trip in a weeks time.

So many things to do...so little time

I like to play golf for exercise. So it's a hobby not a passion.

I spend a bunch of my time and money with airplanes. So that's a hobby and a passion. And has led to some very interesting and fun activities plus a great group of people to hang with.

I'd love to have a dog, but my travel and other non-scheduled stuff would make that unfair to the dog.

I've had my own business for about 9 years now. That has to be a passion, or you couldn't put up with what it takes to be on your own.

The picture is my Mooney M20J and hanger.
daydreamer- that would pretty much be a dream come true for me. how lucky you are to be so close to wilderness like that. my truck is ready for something it will probably never see unless i drive a couple thousand miles out west...

bio- a boat is simply a hole in the water in which you throw money. its very efficient at that too...

and tell that cat to get a job!
Fishing for salmon, and Steelhead in rivers. Fishing in the ocean is second to walking the river.

Food, Red Wine, Tequila, and Mexico !!
Hola!

Not to forget my partner, she puts up with me, and never complains about spending money on the 968!!
What a keeper.
hmm, I'm seeing a trend develop here : wine, spirits, and good food ( to absorb the wine and spirits )
Good stuff ... I too love to fly like Lear35A, but don't really do it as a hobby. The Air Force used to let me do it for real. Now I do paperwork and let others do the flying.

For me I spend a lot of time cycling. I have a couple of pretty cool bikes, and commute to work on a Cannondale touring bike outfitted with lights, racks and panniers. Eddy Merckx "the Cannibal" is one of my heroes and I finally got one of his frames a couple of years ago that I am doing my best to wear out at around 5,000 miles per year. Heck I get more annual mileage on my bikes than in the 968s.

I've tried to learn golf lately, and have discovered I need some lessons, BAD!

Oh and I like to cook and eat making the cycling habit fairly fortuitous... Oh and life is too short to drink crummy beer. I'm a bit of a beer snob. Red wine is fine, but I prefer a good IPA or porter any day!
additional diversions include guitars (not pictured: banjo, ukulele, and sitar) and a 30ft travel trailer
A close second to Porsches and esp 968's, I am addicted to hockey. Still playing year-round in local adult leagues. I also have a passion for coaching as well - I co-coach Varsity Hockey with a teammate & thoroughly enjoy teaching all that I know & seeing novices learn the game and eventually graduate as skilled players. In my spare time I build model cars and collect shot glasses from business travel outside & within the country. I dabbled with a VFR rating years ago and loved to fly but got married and wasn't able to afford it any longer.
Family, tennis, golf, snow skiing (that is more difficult if you live in Australia and QLD in particular), collecting die cast cars (potential divorce material there), motorsport, Steak of any kind, beer, port, margarita's
I too love watches, specifically Omegas. I've got a Seamaster 2254 and I just got the Speedmaster moon watch (manual wind). Love both of them. Also have a Tag and an old Tissot 24 hr analog from 1967, which is a really cool piece my dad gave me b/c he never wore it, so it's like new.
Cars are my passion though, had a 1974 MGB that I sold after owning for 7 years in order to make room for the 968. Like to mountain bike as well and play tennis, though I'm pretty terrible at tennis.
Biotechee- snowmobiling is one of favorite winter sports. What an adrenaline rush.

Right now I am onto jet skiing. Super charged Kawasaki 250x fasted stock ski on the water

collecting and drinking wine and.....

I also like to get out to do road trips on my Harley..............

Watches, guns, Diesels, german shepherds, soccer, belgian beer & clothing.
fox944- I didn't know you were into Belgian beer ! Ever try Delerium ?
Delerium is good stuff. I love Piraat, try that one out if you haven't.
