Hi all,
Having a strange problem with left turn signal I wanted to get advice on.
The right works fine. 4 ways all work fine. The left does not turn on at all. The little flasher indicator on the dash board comes on solid, but slightly dimmed.
The owners manual says if a light is burned, the dashboard indicator will flash at double speed, that is not happening.
Does the 4 way flasher prove all my bulbs and part of the circuitry is working correctly? Could it be a relay somewhere?
thanks
John
If you turn the indicator to left and get out of the car are the front and back bulbs on solid? If they are I would say one side of the turn relay is pooched.
John...first things first...change the bulb since it's easy and cheap. I've got plenty of bulbs here if you want to come by. If that doesn't cure it, then we can trace things back to see if it's the relay or something else. Now, where would we get a spare turn signal relay to test with.....hmmmmm... I'll be here tonight.

Thanks Dave, I turn on the left signal and no bulbs turn on. 4 ways turn them all on. BTW, my regards to a fellow Canadian. I am from Montreal. Now living in VA
Darryl, good idea. I'll swap out the bulbs and see if that helps. then move down the line to relays. I'll swing by later this evening.
Great to have a parts depot so close by
Thanks guys
Looks like I found the problem. Darryl helped my troubleshoot the core problem down to the turn signal switch on steering column.
So I was about to order a new one then thought that it's just some contacts in there, and I went and bought some contact cleaner. That solved my problem.
Sprayed contact cleaner into the switch a few times and it started to work again.
So contact cleaner is now man's new best friend right after duct tape.
Thanks Darryl
Very cool...good news! Like we discussed, that's a fairly uncommon failure, so glad the contact cleaner worked. I should've thought to try that while you were here!
