Ok friends, help me out. Has anyone powder coated any calipers? I want to but can't seem to find the right people. These at the link below appear to be "all that" but have yet to respond to multiple emails and have absolutley NO OTHER contact information listed nor can I find any online. Has anyone had any done, by who, and were you satisfied with the result and/or does anyone know how to reach these guys or where they are?

We're using a guy local to us and I'll get to see his work in person on some Ferrari 550 Maranello parts very soon. They are the same Brembo 4 piston jobbers we have on the 968. We've had a couple of Lamborghini sets painted and clear coated which looked nice but not sure how they'll hold up. I'm getting ready to experiment on a set that I'm rebuilding with all new seals which will get pistons removed and properly prepped prior to application of the G2 kit so we'll see in person how that comes out as well. I'm planning to do new PORSCHE logos with VHT paint and then VHT clear as well. IF it sucks, I'll bead blast them and send them off to the powder coater!! I'll post a pic of the 550 calipers and if you want to send yours up, we can work something out.

Hey thanx and keep us posted with pics. I also have a local coater and he has done red calipers but no P calipers. He and I are both sure he can, but if I could find these guys on that link it appears they have mastered the process. I definitely don't want paint. Been there - done that.
Well, I go to a local guy. AZ powder coating. They do good work. I havent had them do calipers, but my specialist referred me to them. Pretty sure they have. http://phoenix.citysearch.com/profile/16..._coat.html Not sure if they do things through mail, but worse they could say is no. Sorry Im not more help.
I've repainted the calipers on my old 964 with high temp paint and they came out great. I cleared over the decals. I've also read several posts where high-temp painted calipers were subjected to track use with no harm.
Here's what I've learned from my investigations:

1) The high temp caliper paint can and will work, as long as you properly prepare the calipers before hand, and follow directions. That said, if you don't do a thorough preparation, you'll be sorry.

2) Powder coating them properly isn't cheap. As with using the paint, it is all about the prep. This takes time and paying somebody to do this isn't cheap if you want it done right.

Back when I was interested in doing this, the best resource I could find wanted big bucks. That included a proper teardown of the caliper, cleaning, powder coating in the color of my choice, and proper reassembly with new seals. I think, and I could be wrong, it was over $500 just for the fronts. Turn around was slow, too. Most places that offered the caliper powder coating were the same in terms of what they did, how long it would take, and how much it would cost.

I never went forward with it because I couldn't justify the expense, yet I also didn't want try the paint myself knowing my prep skills are pretty much nada!!
I would suggest that you call Autometrics and ask them who they use. They might know of a "local" shop that does good work. Last one we did came out of a shop in Atlanta.

Yes biotechee, you are most correct. The success (appearance and adhesion) of any surface coating depends on the preperation. Fortunately I own a bead blaster and have been building calipers for 40 years so nothing here scares me. My local powder coater is very reasonable on pricing and I've never had a problem with anything he has ever done for me. I have also located a company that supplies the PORSCHE script stencils so I'm gonna give this a shot locally and see what happens. The prices my local guy is quoting me are way back of the numbers you mentioned. I'll document the process and the expense and post pics, but it will likely be early next year.
Hey Joel, I know Gordon well (we were at same Porsche function last Sat) and I'm sure, since there's only one local coater, that he and I use the same guy but good suggestion and I will verify. Thanx

With so many good suggestions I assume your going in a different direction form the company above. But I wanted to add that you must be very careful when dealing with a company that you cant adequately converse with. Just think if they had your calipers and your trying to check on the status 3 months later. That's a lot of frustration. if I cant dial a number and speak with someone, they don't get my business.
CHudson-

Excellent! I can't wait to see the results! Wish I had the contacts and the wherewithall to do them as well...
Yeah roger that rhudeboye - I prefer to be able to drive to their door and stare at them unless they have a superb long-standing reputation in the industry. No address, no phone number, no location listed? - No thank you!
there is a lot to be said of brick and mortar - i also tend to shy away from purely internet businesses - i've had too many experiences over the years with mail order and internet businesses that have been less than optimal in dealing with errors and omissions - it's very easy for them to blow you off
How'd this turn out?
