I notice that my cooling fan is running as soon as I turn the switch to the first stop, and I find it is also running after I shut down if I don't return the key to full counterclockwise. I know the engine isn't hot, and it's not an issue of it running after it has been driven and switched off, a common enough happening. So, do I need a new fan switch, or should I check the continuity?
sounds like maybe a relay has shorted
is it one fan or both? low speed or high?
A/C button stuck on? LS fan runs all the time with the AC correct?
Good call, indeed. Before starting up this morning, I noted that the AC switch was off and the engine fan went on at the key accessory position. I then started the engine and turned on the air conditioning, which hadn't been run for some weeks, and drove to Walmart I also fiddled the rear window defroster switch because one portion was depressed more than the other, though the light wasn't on. I think this was irrelevant. Before arriving at my destination I shut down the AC and returned the key to the accessory position, the CD player rolling out Simon and Garfunkel, and the fan was not running. Restarting later, I noted the fan did not go on at the accessory position, and it did not run when I pulled the car into the garage and turned the switch to accessory and then off. So, I'm mystified but happy and won't have spend more time on the 968 so that I can tend to my '62 Mark 2 Jag, which can always provide a diversion. Thanks, guys.
Glad your back in business.
Love that Inspector Morse Mark 2! My dad had an XK150 when I was very young but he sold it. Mind you he sold his 356 to buy the XK150 which is really sad!
