I figured a fun rainy-day project would be to buy an eBay gas cap for a 944 S2 and see if it would fit, and if so - rekey it to match the ignition keys I already have.

Most of the instructions on the Internet, however, deal with a plastic gas cap, and the one I purchased happens to be all metal. There are no "plastic tabs" holding the unit together, hence I don't see how to get started.

So, the first order of business is - does anybody know how to get the cap apart so I can rekey the tumblers? [Image: cool.gif] It's rainy outside...
i've never seen a metal cap on these cars - it has always been the red plastic one - sounds like somebody stuck in an aftermarket cap
This is the same cap that was on my 944S, not that it couldn't have been aftermarket on that car as well I suppose, but that's what led me to believe it was the right one [Image: rolleyes.gif]

You can buy a new cap and it comes without the keyed part, so my guess would be that there is indeed a way to remove that part separately. I don't have the know how to do so though. Make a DIY out of it and post it up for the masses!
