I can't let Ben have all the fun beating Bimmers. I had a great weekend. My car was hooked up and I had a great race with my friend/rival MIke. I was finally able to beat him, but just by a foot or two! We pulled away from the other cars in class (a couple Subaru StIs, another E46M3, E36M3) and had our own race long duel.

Eric,
Great video's! Amazing driving. Nicely done!
Great duel. That was the most interesting video I've watched!
Curse this company. Youtube access is blocked!
That was TOO COOL! Way to snatch it at the end - never quit, always run for it! Nice smooth driving, no tire chatter. This is with the 2.5 Turbo, correct?
That race track is gorgeous - what a great place. Did I see correctly - you were grabbing SIXTH??? Even at Pocono I run out of road before sixth.
PS - liking the Red Bull driving suit - looking pro dude!
Yes, I'm using 6th on the front straight.
Pacific Raceways is a cool track. The back side is like a tiny sliver of the Nurburgring. But in most spots there is a high penalty if you go off.

I was looking at some of the trees right next to the track and thinking, no fence - just a little earthen berm to keep you out of the woods. BIG penalty
Great Video,
Man that track is cool-if you stay on!!!
Did I see a 6 to 4th downshift??? That takes focus!!!
Pete
Very cool video.
As I was watching, I'm thinking: "Why does this track look familiar?". Then I realized it is the track in Kent, where my son took his motor bike two years ago, and also did an "onboard" video. My wife could not watch it because of how "close the trees are to the track"!
Keep us posted when your track days are, I would like to take a look first hand someday!
If you want to get an idea of the strain on the driver, watch the key fob thru the corners!
Yes, looks like a cool track, hard to believe that it is only 2.25miles long (looked at the web site), nice elevation etc, nice bit of driving.
Nice driving. Love the race recorder in the BMW, too.

fun to watch - thanks
what class do you race in that puts you in with that much of a mismatch of cars?
also, and don't take this wrong, but based solely on numbers, i would have thought the turbocharged 968 (even if it is a 2.5) would stomp the piss out of an E46 M3, but it looks like it was pretty darned close - i would think you had about 400hp - are you set up with a lower output, or is his car as modified as yours?
We are running a class called Sport Touring which has a 10 to 1 power to weight limit. I'm running at 290rwhp @ 14.5psi. He is about 300rwhp and running a little heavier than me so it is a close match. The turbo engine has had good reliability since I'm not stressing it to the max.
ah - that makes sense then - thanks - is that a nasa thing, or scca, or what?
i'm so old they have changed all of the classifications long ago
It is the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs, which is a regional sanctioning body that runs a 14 race championship on 5 tracks in the Pacific NW.
wow - i am really out of touch - not even familiar with that one - cool
Have you driven your friends E 46? Which do you believe to be the better car? Being a 968 nut I race an E 36 M 3 (not my car) which is considerably quicker than my CS (oops, swearing in church!).
//TL
Yes, we have raced in each other's car. Better in which way? The E46M3 is noticeably more modern and more expensive. All the electronics are more advanced, the engine is pretty trick in stock form. His brakes are bigger and better. I'm sure MIke wouldn't trade with me. But for being older the 968 holds its own.
If I wasn't such a Porsche fan I'd race an E46 - awesome cars
