Hows it going everyone. Heavy equipment mechanic living in the last frontier. I bought a 1994 968 convertible for $500 this past winter. Long story short I was in the right place at the right time. Never thought I'd own a porsche let alone one for so little. It needs a lot of work to restore it to its proper beauty. Thank God I have all the tools to do the job right.
Welcome,

You may have the only 968 in Alaska...I don't believe we have any members from there yet.

Enjoy the site,

Jay

Welcome, you will find bags of help on here
Welcome aboard, I seriously recommend you don't drive it until you have looked at the new owners guide on this forum. For that money and your location there's a good chance it is short on maintenance and a snapped, loose, slipping cam belt bring it all to a very sad end in a hurry.

Seriously, don't move it until you've checked the cam belt.

Good luck with it all !
Welcome, and I most definitely second Roboman’s advice on this .

The car has sat for 12 years, so I won't be driving it until I have taken the engine and transmission apart. I plan on inspecting every piece and reusing all the parts I can and replacing what needs to be replaced. My biggest dilemma is I need an engine harness, engine bay harness and chassis harness. I also have to replace all the fabric material in the cab and replace a few body parts. The frame is in good shape and there isn't any rust that I can tell. I haven't seen any 968's in fairbanks. I know there is at least one in anchorage
Welcome. Sounds like you’ve got a bit of work ahead of you but it will be worth it in the end!

Welcome, there is a lot to know about these cars, but there are some very experienced people on here that have already had every problem you are likely to face.

Make a few more postings then you can upload some pictures, I would be very interested to know what your car looks like and what options it was given by Porsche. There are some folks on here that can give you a lot of good information based on the VIN and the build tag.

I would doubt the trans needs stripping, they are pretty bomb proof unless its an auto,

The engine will need belts and possibly a head gasket if it was not drained, and just about every bit of rubber going,

A word of warning if its made of rubber and is a Porsche part be prepared for some serious expense, the top windscreen seal is about $1000
The only reason I'm pulling the trans is to reseal it
AK it sounds like your up for it all, and are playing the long game .... Looking forward to "before and after" pics. Have a good weekend!
Ya its going to take quite awhile. Plan on making her look brand new. I'll post all the before pics once I get the garage cleaned out and ready to bring the car in
