I'm still not entirely acclimated to the change, even though it's a mere hour diff. But this is not the reason for the post... this is : Last Sunday when the change took effect, I went to see my friend who is afflicted with Dyslexia and noticed that he was putting shoe polish on his penis at the time. I had to tell him again : No, no, no..You're supposed to turn your Clock Back !!

At the risk of offending you , your friend and others, I just can't help myself Was your friends name Al Jolson!
Ahhh, good ol' Al Jolson...how could anyone watch that sh*t ( regardless of the different era in which it was ..) and possibly think what he did was "entertainment" ?! Yup, pretty offensive, but probably not much different than the countless of movies in which caucasian actors were made up to portray just about every other imaginable race and folks thought that was perfectly fine.. But I digress... The dyslexia " story " may be more offensive to people suffering from that ailment, but hey, joke them if they can't take a... ,
Too funny. I could definitely use a good laugh, as I've had a miserable few days wrestling with a CV boot replacement project on our 2003 BMW X5. That has got to be the most miserable car to work on that I've ever run across. Last weekend, I replaced the fuel filter. The job went without a hitch - not a single miscue, an extreme rarity for me. But it still took nearly feakin' FIVE HOURS. . You'd think BMW was keeping the keys to Fort Knox behind the Rube Goldberg-designed labyrinth of panels hiding the damn fuel filter.
Two weeks ago I changed the CV boots on my son's Altima, but the story has a somehwat different twist : given how cheap that car is ( a 2000 model and I'm pretty sure the year might be higher than its market value ) I decided it's fine to go with a half-ass repair and bought the split boots which go on without having to remove the whole damn wheel / suspension assembly. And it still took me a couple of hours to do all that, those damn tiny, multiple screws which fasten the boots sides together were a colossal PITA.
I'm still chuckling at your joke (but then, I'm easily amused...). Yeah, these projects can really be a pain. On the X5, being an all-wheel drive car, there are two joints, and therefore two boots, on each axle shaft. Only my outer ones were leaking, so I wasn't planning to touch the inner ones, as they tend to last the life of the car. There are multiple ways to remove the shafts, but the easiest turns out to be to remove the axle at the transaxle, which requires disassembly of the inner joint, which turns out not to be too difficult. However, it also turns out the inner joint isn't a CV joint, but a "tripod joint" which uses needle bearings, and therefore needs a "special" type of grease, which turns out to be unobtanium, except through mail order, for nearly $50 including shipping, which means having the car incapacitated and using up garage space intended for my wife's primary driver for a week. Plus, I've discovered that nobody locally stocks decent quality CV boot clamps (you can't reuse the old ones once you've removed them), and I only have the two sets for the outer boots (I wasn't planning to remove the inner boot - it was only after I discovered how difficult it was to disassemble the axle at the outer joint that I decided to go the inner joint route). So, I'm going to have to order the clamps. Look up the technical term "cluster f***" in the dictionary, and you'll find a my happy little project
Funny you should mention clamps... two out of the four clamps that came with the kit were just a few mm too short ( the outer ones ) and you'd think they should not make mistakes like that, but that's what you get sometimes with generic products that fit a variety of cars. Anyway, I could not find the same type at the auto parts store so I bought hose clamps instead and so far so good...but it's only been a couple of weeks so time will tell I suppose.
