I bought a cover at Sam's Club when we did our renovation. When it was done I threw it away. Bought 2 more for snow storms for the Volvos..no muss, no fuss.

Since your car is black, I would not put a cover on it to "protect the paint" as it will likely do more harm than good. The friction from the wind blowing and from taking it on and off will likely cause more light scratching. If you're in a bad area for industrial fallout type contaminants, then yes a cover would be best, but a good sealer and top coat of wax is fine protection.

i agree - car covers are a bad idea unless the car is extremely clean and well waxed before putting it on.

car covers are bad only if you buy cheap ones.. the high end ones, which are custom fit to the 968 are so snug they won't move a millimiter even in a hurricane and have ultra soft interior lining with a completely impermiable / weather-proof exterior material... but you're looking at $ 400-$500 for one. I have mine made by Cover King and IIRC I bought it at autoanything.com . but yeah, definitely detail the car, add some sealer and wax before you put the cover on it..

i have 2 of them, one the OEM cover which is soft on the inside, and one a nylon type - same results - on clean, no problem - on dirty, tiny scratches everywhere



i stopped using them unless i need to prevent something in the garage (like sawdust from a project) or am storing the car for a long time (like on vacation) - in either event, i make sure the cover is freshly cleaned, as is the car

I have the oem cover as well which is a foil-thin piece of crap, good for nothing other than keeping bird pop off your car and/or maybe lowering the cabin temp by 2 degrees if you park in the midday sun :-). Good news it's extremely light weight and packs compact.

Yup, thanx guys. I'm well aware of the paint damaged caused by cheap covers. I'm looking to put the 68 out doors for the first time since I took ownership. It will likely sit out doors through most of the winter. I did some research on the better covers out there and yes, they are between 500 - 800. I cant see myself spending $500 on a cover. I do understand that the car is worth it but when i priortize my cash the cover doesnt rank very high on the list. So I was looking for a used one.



Wax and sealent. You guys feel this is a good protectant from the winter elements? Does snow and ice sitting atop a car truely harm anything?

I've lived my entire adult life in either Phoenix or Austin, and have always covered my cars to protect them from the sun's harmful rays, and have never noticed scratching on any of my cars as a result. Maybe I'm not that picky and haven't noticed...

I have been very fortunate to have covered parking for the past 8 years. That is going away and I plan to start daily driving the 968, mostly top down. Our issues are sun and dust.



Anyone find a cover that protects against UV and keeps the dust out without trashing the paint?
