Looking for new pads to finish up my winter project. The car is still on jack stands. Time to get it out! So I've read good things about the Porterfield R4-S pad. Had these on a Miata before and I was impressed. I really like the sound of the Cobalt's but a little out of my price range right now. Question is do these come with a pre-drilled location for brake wear sensor? I got burned on that before on a set of Boxster pads. I had to drill it myself and the pad fell apart in the location I drilled. Looks like a bunch of you guys went with these on a group buy so should be an easy one to answer. Thanks, -Tom
yes - tight fit, and the old sensor will almost certainly break, but a new one should be fine. i had no problem with new ones.

In the process of ordering cobalt xr2 front pads and a stage 1 chip from RS Barn for my fairly stock tip. Anyone had experience with these pads yet? Its just for street use and I have the typical hatred of squeal and excessive brake dust.
I would love anything that reduced squeal and brake dust!
After washing the wheels I'm loath to brake! I've read that the cobalts do everything well, but would love to hear from someone with direct experience.
the only cobalts i have experienced were too noisy for me. i hate any noise at all. not the worst i've heard though. i can't really comment on the braking, as i did not drive the car, but they seemed to work fine from the passenger seat.
I thought the Cobalts were a performance/ racing pad, and need some heat before working well? Not really recommended for the street.
purely from reading about them on the internet, that is my understanding too.

I believe that's correct, thus the high noise level.
Thanks guys, I was waiting for Pete at RSBarn to provide a bit more detail on the cobalt XR2's. I need to get this right as they'll be shipping out to New Zealand and I was hoping to combine the shipping with the stage 1 chip, perhaps thats not possible - really don't need the squeal on the commuter run every day.
I have been very happy with the Porterfield R4-S pads. Excellent for street use, good linear / progressive feel and low dust. And, as a bonus, they are even suitable for light track work. I used them on my 968 on the street and use them on my 911 now. Price is reasonable but there is only one online source that I am aware of. YMMV.
