I wonder what sort of boost that kit runs. And what it may do to the engine internals over time. Seems difficult to get that sort of power out of this engine and retain any sort of reliability.
it is. as far as i know, every one of the kits has had real problems. there are a couple of guys running them, but it took a lot to get them going. they are all intercooled, which helps, and they all had to get in a lot deeper than they thought at the beginning.

the issue that is of primary concern are the rods. i already experienced that one just about where these cars are running. i subjected it to an abusive set of conditions, but cylinder pressure is cylinder pressure. eventually those things are going to bend. the real problem is that i didn't know it for a long time. the car ran "fine" and showed no signs of issue, other than oil consumption. very disturbing.

the other issue is that there is no provision for sustained on boost part throttle. if they are running the motronic, it will return the mixture to stoich in less than 1/2 second, and that can really cause problems if it exceeds the ability of the system to retard timing and prevent detonation. the system is very limited in that regard, and the perfect storm could easily come into play and ruin your day
The stock pulley supplied with the SFR kit made about 7psi. There are a couple of other pulley options offered for approx 5psi and 9psi but the way the single idler pulley is setup you get too much orbiting of the belt and not enough belt wrap to go much beyond 7psi without belt slip problems. The 9psi pulley only ever made 7psi and actually worked worse than the dedicated 7psi pulley because the constant slip often produced less consistent boost. I long ago went to my own custom belt, pulley and idler system to be able to push the boost up to higher levels which the procharger is capable of.

If you stuck with 5-7psi it's a very reliable power adder, but that does make it an expensive way to get 5-7psi these days compared with the alternative kits available and the tuning solution supplied is very basic. I would say it is still a sound basis for a road kit, if there was a bit of an update to the tuning solution and a price reduction.

The C2 procharger is a good head unit but the supporting kit hardware doesn't allow you to make the most of it's capabilities. To make this kit have real value it should be really be supplied with my modified 8 rib pulley, twin idler belt setup, a standalone ecu and a new set of rods. Then it might actually be good value! lol
there ya go. it's not normally about the head unit. it's all about the kit. basically you reworked the kit, and did the engineering that should have been done in the first place. good on ya.

like you said though, back then, it was the only game in town.
